31  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Soon-to-be-existing Crafty Comic - Teacosies With Irony! on: November 29, 2005 04:11:46 AM
Launching on December 1st (that's this Thursday!) I give you:

Hopefully, it will be hosted at http://teacosieswithirony.comicgenesis.com - I'd recommend watching this thread, because if there are changes I'll post them here.

I really hope I've captured the spirit of the subversive crafting movement.  What do you think of the idea?
32  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Rather odd (but bear with me) question about Under the Hoodie on: November 13, 2005 11:52:16 AM
...What colours is it portrayed in in SnB?

I ask because I don't have a copy of the book ( Cry), but I'm working on a comic about crafts and it's a gag in one strip.

Teacosies With Irony, starts December 1st, PM me for details  Wink
33  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / "Congratulations on coming out of the closet" present? on: October 09, 2005 12:30:25 PM
A close friend of mine recently told me she was bisexual.  She hasn't come out yet to the world at large, but I reckon it's only a matter of time, so I want to have a nice handmade gift all ready for when it happens.

Coming out is scary and it doesn't always lead to good things, and I figured that I'd have liked a present when I had to do that.  (I did get a rainbow badge a couple of months later, though ^_^)

She's really, really into rock music and she loves Alkaline Trio, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and some other bands that I've never heard of.  She also likes talking about our German teacher in a bikini, if that helps...

So... any nice ideas?  It probably doesn't matter if it takes ages to make, but it has to keep well Wink
34  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Extra protein for veggies? on: October 02, 2005 09:46:28 AM
I'm a vegetable vegetarian, and I eat cheese or soya (yay for Quorn!) or eggs or whatever for my main evening meal every day, but I don't usually have any protein for lunch (I take a packed lunch to school), and sometimes not even for breakfast.  What else can I add to my diet to beef up (if you'll excuse the expression) my protein intake?
35  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / if you were painting jeans, what would you paint? on: September 09, 2005 03:38:39 AM
would you do bubbles, flowers, stars?  Would you paint all over or just the tops and bottoms?  What kind of theme would you go for?
36  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / bath confetti? on: September 07, 2005 06:48:45 AM
does anyone know how to make this?  The stuff I bought my mum smelt like soap and disintegrated quite prettily when left in the water for a bit.  It was sort of like the stuff on the outside of bath pearls, if that helps...
37  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Shamble (like in "A Hat Full of Sky" by Terry Pratchett) on: September 01, 2005 04:56:32 AM
I made a shamble from some random stuff on my desk.

Before:

In case you were wondering, that's:
a marble
a dice (die?)
two screws
a scrap of fabric
a button
a bit of masking tape
a battery
a piece of scoubidou
a slightly mangled safety pin
a little piece of paper
a fairy-lights lightbulb
a swirly rubber
a shiny red glass pebble
a pencil
some thread
a penny

After much knotting and swearing and getting my fingers caught in things...

yay!

Miss Level would be proud...  and as someone on the Discworld Livejournal Community pointed out, it has a power source, even though it's not alive!

They're really fun to make - if you do one make sure to post it here - I'd love to see your efforts!
38  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Three colour illusion knitting? on: August 31, 2005 10:33:28 AM
Just something I was thinking about.  The theory is pretty simple, but in practise would it just be too fiddly to do?  Has anyone tried it?

(I'll post up a three-colour pattern at some point, if I end up making one)
39  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Feminism and embroidery? on: August 31, 2005 01:54:43 AM
I was curious...  those of you who class yourselves as feminists, where does embroidery sit in your world view?  How does it fit in with your idea of feminism?
40  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Price for scarf? on: August 27, 2005 07:52:01 AM
I knitted this scarf:

And I want to eBay it.  What price would you suggest as a starting bid/buy-it-now price?

(for the record, the yarn cost me roughly 1, so I don't really need to make up for materials)

Thanks in advance!
