191  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Re: Any other NZers open an Etsy shop yet? on: July 28, 2005 11:52:36 PM
Yeah I'm just such a tightwad and I know I'll never make enough money to justify withdrawing it...I did actually make the shop and all but then when I realised the cost of shipping outweighed the items it didn't seem as much fun!!

It's a big disappointment though because I really like the way it is all set up..

Is it working out to be economical for you? The things I'd want to sell probably wouldn't justify the paypal charge of $1 per withdrawl....all of your things are very neat though. I really like some of that jewellery! Smiley

Wow - had never seen that site before..im enchanted....

Yes I hate the postage people. I remember my boyfriend wanted to send someone some liquer and he had it all nicely wrapped up and sealed and the lady at the post office kept smashing it against the bench in order to illustrate that it would smash if it was posted. It didn't, and I think she was very disappointed. Crazy woman...

Anyway, it would cost me about $3.50 in a big plain envelope to send 3 whales.....basically like sending your tshirt in a big envelope with a 90c stamp. They wouldnt let me send it for 90c though because apparently the whale is too fat to go through the postage slot! So I have found out I can get trackpacks through my mums work for $2.20 (they're about 4.50 in shops) and I can track my orders and they're a bit more protected from the elements. Still wish I could just get them through that slot though...maybe I'll have to iron the buggers before sending hahah!

Hello!

I have used TradeMe in the past to sell a lot of things, but I'm not sure how well crafty items will sell. I've had a few page views which were nice but haven't sold anything Smiley Will relist them tonight however - Trademe is good in the fact that if you dont sell, there is no fee you have to pay at all (unlike Etsy when it is fully introduced in November)

I actually looked at Etsy and keep humming and harring over it but since these whales are low budget chaps (I've kept the price at $6NZ on TradeMe and I can send them for $2.20 now thanks to better research of postage rates!) it wouldnt' be economical for me to sell them, as I would have to pay $1 for each time I withdraw money from paypal. But they look so neat on the website....argh struggles of the mind!!

Oooooh I'm glad someone is interested in a custom one Smiley I made one for my aunty and she thought he was very cute lol!

I might sell them at the markets where I live (Paraparaumu) at Xmas anyway, as my Dad is an artist and sells alot around then. It will be a strange stall, many small whales and some oil paintings...oh well Smiley

Thanks for your replies!

Yep, the chant is called the Haka........some sort of ancient war chant they do before the game to scare the enemy. Very mature huh? Wink

As I have a thing for cats, and rugby, I decided to combine the two to make....all black cat!

He is made from cheap craft cotton, with hand embroidered face and shirt (which was made from drill cotton) supposed to look like an all black uniform....

Sorry about the blurry photo!

For those of you who are completely confused, the All Blacks are the New Zealand rugby team (a sport much like American Football, minus padding. Heres what they are supposed to look like...

(excuse the random photo.....it was surprising hard to find a half decent one with the uniform showing well!)
