Some of my favorite finds:

**an entire library of Japanese books (boxes & boxes!) for $20
**an SLR camera with tons of lenses for cheap
**a knitting machine for $100 (the type that's $3000 new!)
**yarn, yarn, and more yarn! (Usually someone who paid a fortune for the yarn & then never knit anything.)

What weight yarn are you looking at?

My all-time favorite for baby knits is Dale Baby Ull. Beautiful colors, soft as can be, and machine washable to boot! It's a sport weight yarn.

IMHO, I wouldn't trust Babelfish for any translation, much less one that's going to end up on my skin. It's notoriously bad at translating accurately (like every other machine translation so far). Can't handle synonyms and similes, stuff like that. Seems minor, but results in hilariously bad translations. 

Best bet is to get people who speak Hebrew to write it out for you - and do check it with more than one person.  I speak Japanese, and I'm always seeing pseudo-Japanese tattoos on people, wondering what they *think* it says. 

When I was 6, my great-grandma taught me, so 22 years ago.  She taught me a lot of patterns by heart, too. In fact, didn't learn to read a pattern until a decade or so later.

I thought it was the coolest thing ever!  (I still like it, of course, but I like a lot of other things, too.)

Well, when I was studying abroad, we weren't allowed to bring much with us. Packing was a nightmare! So I'd suggest something he's going to need anyway, just customized by you. Or at least something very small & easy to pack.

Just to jump in here- and i dont mean to offend anyone at ALL- but i have very long hair, and people have told me time and time again i should hack it off and send it to locks of love. Aside from the fact that i would be in absolutle HORROR to cut my hair.... I have heard quite a few suspicious things about the Locks of Love organization. They get LOTS of hair donated to them.... and dont really turn out many wigs, considering what they take in. I realize it takes money and time to create these wigs, but there is definitly stockpiles of leftover hair that people have parted with out of the goodness of their heart.... and where does it go?

It doesnt seem like they reveal very much information about their organization, or rather, dont reveal enough to convince me. If i thought it was a good cause, they could probably use the money more than anything. Also ive heard people say that the organization tends to be.... picky? shall we say? About who they give out their wigs to...

Ive unfortunatly had allot of friends and co-workers and family friends that have had cancer- and really if you want to give a gift of hair, the best thing to do is to take things into your own hands.

I think these hats are a great idea, and very cute.  I cant wait to see what saussy ideas people come up with

Once again, i didnt want that to come off wrong- i just feel nervous about people doing something out of the goodness of their hearts, and possibly being taken advantage of. So just a word of warning is all!

Yes, I've heard bad reviews of them, too. They apparently have a bad reputation with the Better Business Bureau for not being forthcoming about their operations.

Even if it's perfectly legit, I'd prefer to donate money to cancer research. *my two cents* And now that I'm embracing my crafty nature  I hope I can make cool things to donate to cancer charities.
