I'm nearing the finish line in knitting the cabled bolero featured on the cover of the winter 2006/07 issue of Vogue Knitting (lookie here).  However, I now realize I don't know how to attach the collar.

I'm not a knitting newbie, I've seamed up the sides of sweaters and the ends of socks but I've never tried seaming a piece of knitting going this way:
