1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / how to remake this drapey top? on: February 28, 2008 02:37:32 PM
I'm making my own prom dress this year, and the top/bust part looks almost similar to this, except without the visible draping that crosses the right side and the seam under the bust.

Can anyone guide me on how to drape the fabric to make this?
2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Selling paintings on: January 28, 2008 03:01:50 PM
So, to help out a friend who's having financial problems, I'm going to be creating paintings to sell. At first I was planning on a primitive approach to sell them, just sitting on a bench somewhere in the East Side, which is the artsy part of the city (Milwaukee). Recently I started thinking about sitting outside coffee shops, like Starbucks or Alterra...but I don't know if that's a good idea. Does anyone here have any other ideas on where to sell them, particularly in the Milwaukee, WI area?
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Simplicity 4072 on: October 13, 2007 01:05:25 PM

I don't have the actual pattern or instructions, but this is what I want to make. I have about four hours ><...

There doesn't seem to be an armscythe seam, so what would the sleeve/bodice pattern piece look like?
4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: HELP!!! Where do I find Clear Elastic AND Foldover elastic?????? on: August 13, 2007 01:40:41 AM
They have clear elastic at Joann's...I found it near other "normal" elastic. I'm not sure about the other, as I've never heard of it.
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Suggestions for shorts that go over a huge brace? on: July 07, 2007 11:03:37 AM
This is similar to the lace up idea, but the girl's basketball team wore these pants with snaps on the side.
6  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / wet seal knit fabric? on: July 05, 2007 08:34:35 PM
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?...a lot of shirts sold at Wet Seal are made from a very very light/drapey, semi sheer knit fabric with some stretch (not a lot). Is there a specific name for this kind of knit? Is it specially made for Wet Seal or could I find it in a fabric store? (particularly in wisconsin?)
7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: machine problems...stitches... on: June 21, 2007 07:07:18 PM
I tried adjusting the tension, but if one side looks good and is stitched correctly, the other side doesn't. For example, when I set it low (1-3) the right side/top thread is correct but the wrong side/bobbin thread is loose and zig-zag shaped. When I set it high, the initial problem occurs.

I've threaded and re-threaded, cleaned the machine, tried different spools and bobbins and needles, and still nothing...my dad's supposed to look at it but it's been two or three days and he still hasn't, gr.

Thank you for your suggestions. : )
8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / machine problems...stitches... on: June 18, 2007 05:13:12 PM
So...my machine isn't making stitches correctly. When I do any length of straight stitch under any tension setting, I get a long line with dots (bobbin thread).

I can very easily pull out the top thread completely...it's like, the bobbin thread is just making loops around the top thread (which looks like dots). The fabric also gathers a bit while the machine stitches.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's been like this for a week and it's really bugging me that I can't sew. :/

When I sewed with super fray fabric, I used french seams.
