21  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: butterfly top: with v-neck tutorial *lots of images* on: July 18, 2005 09:12:24 AM

i love the wide neck on it. my latest thing is wearing tops with extreme features (like extremely low/wide necklines) and then wearing other tops underneath. it's my take on layering. i reckon your style of top would look super funky with a contrasting thick strapped tank underneath.

I love doing that too! I quite like putting lacy camisoles under v-necks as well...I thought I was being well imaginative until I saw a load of tops like this in the shops!  Cry

Well done you talented thing you and thank you on behalf of the not-so-gifted.

My penpals should be getting their letters any day soon...I posted them yesterday and apologise now for the less than interesting content...but I'm sure I will have more to write about when I move. *Here's hoping*

For Miranda,

First thing that came to mind as mentioned before was pyjamas, secondly TIVO (although how would you craft that?! Maybe include a DVD...) and thirdly, chinese food, actually, more generally food.  Out of the four, she is the one you actually see eating on the show, instead of sitting in front of a full plate.   Smiley

Sorry, I realise I have been absolutely no help whatsoever...Good luck!

26  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: In Dire Need of Help... on: July 11, 2005 04:19:48 PM

I think I totally understand where you are coming from.  My Dad is extremely lacking in the artistic idea and looks at things purely from a technical perspective.  I have undertaken a big furniture building project and I have had to enlist his help.  We both have totally different ideas and when we work together this sometimes results in arguments!

However it is a big mistake to undertake a project like this without at least gaining his advice.  My Mum has a knack that means that even if my Dad is reluctant to do something, he'll end up talking about an idea with such enthusiasm you would think he had actually thought the whole thing up!

One of his roles as a Dad is to be a teacher, to pass on skills.  Treat him like he is the biggest DIY guru in the entire universe and there is no way you would even attempt a project without his wisdom onboard.  That way you should be able to get the piece of furniture you want instead of a mangled mess.

Hope you don't think I'm being patronising, it is just I have totally been there before!

Good Luck.
27  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Re: Vogue 7571- I'm in love. on: July 11, 2005 11:55:31 AM
MindWhore-  Your dress turned out absolutely beautiful!!!  I was considering this pattern yesterday, but since it didn't have any real model pics in the book, & Vogue patterns being so expensive, I chickened out.  Now that I've seen your wonderful real-life results, I'm gonna give it a try on my next fabric store trip.  Again, nice job, it turned out great!  :0)

I have seen a picture of one of the shorter versions made up in the June/July 2002 British "Vogue Patterns" magazine.  Ever since I have been hoping I could develop the skills to make it!  I love this pattern and I love your dress, you look wonderful!

Well possibly...

If it was expensive/is limited edition/precious, I would handwash...

Erm, a lot of bras say handwash only because the wiring after a while works its way out and then breaks your washing machine. I heard years ago that it's up there with limescale as being a top cause of machine breakdowns...However, that said I wash my bras in the machine, checking the wiring once in a while to make sure.

Of course there could be another reason, e.g, it has delicate fabric.
