1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / gourd dwelling on: December 28, 2005 02:36:43 PM
Last summer I camped and packed away my art supplies...I decided I'd use only what I found or grew for my art.  My original idea was to carve this gourd as a big lantern....but the more I carved the more it was clearly meant to be a dwelling~
As it turns out-I did use some fabric scraps and battery operated lights....

Here is a close-up....The gourd (which are great fun to carve~and sand very easily) is a bushel gourd...the head is a black walnut shell...hair~ basil root...the wings (if you look very closely past the crappy pic quality) are cicada wings...interior gourd carpeting is some type of lichen....moldy wallpaper-complements of the winter elements...

Here is a shot in the dark....(sorry for the quality-or lack there of....)

3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / ideas on making water.... on: September 17, 2005 10:17:01 AM
Sorry didn't know where else to put this one....I need to make water that is clear and appears to be moving. I've thought of spinning sugar (tips on that would be great too)--though it may be too delicate...The scale is small..about 1"W X 5"L...It will be going inside a diorama--if that helps.  I've searched online for suggestions for what seems like eternity and decided perhaps all the brilliant craftsters could help. Any ideas would be most appreciated~~ Wink
4  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / button holes for needle felting...? on: August 25, 2005 04:54:56 PM
Anyone have any suggestions on making button holes? I'm sewing by hand and would like to put functional buttons for teeny pockets...but I'm needle felting and there is not a real
definite edge to work with....Please and Thank you~ Roll Eyes
5  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Details on wet felting with sushi mat.... on: August 19, 2005 01:28:21 PM
Sorry if this is in the wrong place...I haven't quite mastered the ins and outs of the site...Can anyone give me tips on felting with a sushi mat? I've needle felted a bunch, just tried the sushi mat...but nothing seems to happen. Do you have to roll it for eternity? Should I be using dish soap? Any input would be most appreciated~
