41  Re: A Jar of Mini Whimsies Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by FlashleyAshley on: May 04, 2008 05:40:22 PM
I got my jar from MyFerretLovesMe last week, but I'm horrible and forgot to post it before I went on vacation.
Before I even got to the jar, I found some jelly candy and furikake (rice seasoning) for my bento boxes! So funny, because I had been scouring my local markets for it and couldn't find it!

Then, I got to the jar! It came wrapped with a cute cupcake ribbon:

Then all these sweeeet things started piling out...really awesome buttons, charms, hair clips, patches, candy, yay!

and even more cool stuff: more buttons, fortune teller fish, headband, pez, yummm.

and these are my favorites. The little chick pin is so cute and I am trying hard to think of what to use the computer chip thing for!

thanks Ashley Cheesy

since my group 1 ladies are super fast and awesome, here is almost half of my quilt already!

These are the squares from athenamat, stafishtaylz, myself, 1b1g1k2 and mimiW. So lovely.
There's also a little bit of my postage stamp quilt poking in on the bottom.
I taped a piece of flannel on to my wall and the fabric just sticks to it. It's been helpful in keeping the blocks off the floor and desk, and also is awesome for doing layouts because I can just move the blocks around without consequence. If you don't want to tape your walls, you can tape or glue flannel on to a big cardboard piece and lean it against the wall. This is what allows me to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night withough stomping on my quilt Cheesy

43  Re: Postage Stamp Quilt Squares Swap! in The Swap Gallery by FlashleyAshley on: April 23, 2008 05:38:34 PM
I worked for hours on my quilt today and this is what I have to show for it:

It's amazing how time consuming these tiiiiiny squares are!! By my calculations, I only need to make 92 more squares to have a lap quilt.
Thanks everyone for a fun swap Smiley and a special thanks to athenamat for swapping lots and lots of squares with me!

I got Thanate's fabric yesterday and was SO excited. I'd never heard the term 'steampunk' before, but after some googling I was pretty hyped on it. She gave the option to use some of our own fabrics in the block, and I went to town on that. I used 'grandmother's fan' from quilterscache. I ended up using half her fabric, and half mine (plus some lace for good measure). I used my own fabric for the background, as the 1/4 circle is appliqued and I needed a 12.5" square to apply it to. I really, really hope that this block ends up looking good with the rest of your soon-to-be-squares. If you don't like it, I have enough fabric to make another block  Wink

I am still toying with the idea of adding some more embellishments on the open area, but I don't want it to get too crazy. Thoughts?

so I got MimiW's fabrics yesterday and I was so excited to work with them. She sent me the same globe fabric that I sent, but in a different color. I wanted to pick a pattern that would showcase that fabric, and I chose 'golden wedding ring' from quilters cache. It gave me problem after problem after PROBLEM but here is the finished block:

It's a tiny bit small (about 1/4 inch short) but I'm going to steam it out and hopefully it will measure up. Im sorry MimiW! Undecided

^stafishtaylz block
I wanted to use every fabric (6 of them!) so I ended up using 'on a clear night' from quilterscache. I was going to try and be a 'square quilter' today but I think I am just triangle-y by nature.

athenamat: we are fabric shopping twins. I love all your fabrics. Tons. Which is evident in my postage stamp quilt that has a whole bunch of the shoe fabric in it... I can't wait to see your quilt finished!
I'm in the middle of working on glittergirl94's block. The only thing that got me through my 3 hour math class tonight was the fact that I was 1/2 done with the block and I could finish it when I got home!

{EDIT} here it is!
'star crossing' from quilterscache. I modified it to have to diagonal stripe (with the stars on it) be one continuous piece [instead of 2 pieces seamed together] to showcase the fabric more. While it sounds simple to make that change, it tested my understanding of angles beyond belief. I intended to have the two big stars diagonally across from each other, but somehow that didn't happen and it's making me crazy! OCD, much? Roll Eyes anyway, here it is--

 Grin
You made me smile in real life even in the midsts of my stupid college registration drama! I love it! and wow you're speedy.
It will match well with my block that I made for myself, which was also posted in the other thread. But for the sake of consistency...

Post what you did FlashleyAshley!  You aren't premature--just on top of things!

I wouldn't say that I'm 'on top of things'... I just find any reason to not do homework  Lips sealed

I was trying to decide if I should add some smaller scale prints in the mix, but I think I like how it turned out and I hope nobody hates working with these fabrics! This was my first time paper piecing and I made a few mistakes but it worked out overall. I learned what I did wrong and everything should be good for next time. It's 'Eyes of March' from quilterscache.

I know this is totally jumping the gun, but I bought my fabrics today! My parents let me borrow my car temporarily [I had to leave it behind when I moved to the city,  Cry] and I have to give it back in a few days. It's a 5 minute drive to the fabric store, but 2 hours on 3 different busses otherwise!

Anyway. Here they are. I think I want to add another fabric or two to the lineup, but who knows. I've got time.
