21  Re: **Pretty Pincushion Swap gallery** in The Swap Gallery by FlashleyAshley on: July 21, 2008 07:06:15 PM
Yay! I'm so glad you like them, Michelle. After I shipped them out, I realized that Dotee dolls are supposed to have a loop for hanging them up. I guess she can just stand Wink That was the one I had difficulties with since I (stupidly) sewed the body before adding the hair. Lesson learned!
and here's another picture just cause the light hit it perfectly:

The whole time I was making your pincushions, I was using the pincushions that you made me. It was like the pincushion circle of life!

Here's all my squares together (for now!) I started piecing together on one of the borders using the scraps, but quite frankly I got bored and had to put it away for a while. The pieces were too little, I need some instant gratification!

I sent out a few more packs of this fabric for LQ3 and personal swaps, so it might take a while to get finished. But that's okay, I've got lots of other projects to work on!

23  Re: Lap Quilt Swap III: Fall Edition (USA and Canada) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by FlashleyAshley on: July 11, 2008 05:40:32 PM
I finally got my fabrics together today.

Everyone is getting the 5 fabrics on the bottom left, and then 2 of the fabrics on the bottom right. I bought one of those 'skinny eighths' fabric that has 8 patterns running the length of it. It's genius! The one on the top is going to be the backing. I realize that the stripes and woodgrain pattern are pretty similar in value, but that's alright. I hope it'll be cute! It's supposed to be for a baby but if I like it, it might stick around Tongue

24  Re: Bento Swap 2 Gallery!! in The Swap Gallery by FlashleyAshley on: July 10, 2008 09:08:34 PM
I received my wonderful box from Lylmousy the other day. I have been in summer school finals and FINALLY have time to post pictures. Boyfriend took the pictures for me, so there's a lot of them...

she sent me a recipe book FULL of handwritten recipes. Some of them sound so delicious. There's also some cute animal picks and three(!!!) bento belts.

CANDY! As soon as the box was opened, the candy was being devoured. and also a rice paddle. I'm always losing these things, so it's a handy accessory to have.

and a really nice lunch bag! She made it pretty gender neutral so that the boyfriend can use it also. She also sent a coordinating placemat, cause I'm a messy eater  Tongue There's also a tiny little sauce dish that's super cute. But my favorite thing of all are the nori punches! I love tiny things.

and chopsticks. Yay, chopsticks. I'm a whiz with these things.

THANK YOU, LYLMOUSY! I love it all. I can't wait to make some cute lunches. Grin

WOW!!
how fun to see them all together.
Mine is still my favorite of the ones you made, though  Tongue Ezri_b's is a close, close second!
here's mine:

I got my pincushions from MichelleAmes today! A sugar skull and a giant eyeball!

Here is Boyfriend showing how huge the eyeball is! Michelle suspected that I would enjoy poking pins into an eyeball...she knows me well! I wear contact lenses so I am familiar with poking eyeballs  Roll Eyes

and here is the cute little sugar skull. It has an elastic band to go on my hand while I'm sewing. It's got lots of cute embroidered details and reminds me of living in the Valley.

Thank you MichelleAmes! I love them both and can't wait to poke them with lots of pins Smiley

Here's two of my blocks for my personal swap with Lukenlarry. They're 'string stars' and 'balkan puzzle' from QC.

I'm doing 'string stars 2' from quilters cache for everyone.
Here it is with some of my fabrics:

and with SewHelpMe's fabrics. My boyfriend said it looked silly with two fabrics as the background, but I kind of like it.

and one for glittergirl94. Her fabrics have such a happy vibe. Out of the huge pile of fabric, this was the first one I grabbed since it was so cute and bright.

Here is a block for whoopdedoo_5. I really love her fabrics, but I think the contrast got a little lost in the block. I maybe could have arranged them differently, but I still like it!

and here is jenicat's block. I am a fan of the  black/white/red combo and I really like the high contrast in the block.

and one for Ritapizza. I LOVE your fabrics for this whole quilt. I'd never have thought to put orange with blue, but I think it's a wonderful combination that I'll be stealing soon Tongue

and yet another string star, this one for BertaBerta. I'm glad she sent lots of fabric so I was able to make the fish face the way I wanted them to. Hooray!

and a string star for j_q_adams! I apologize for the picture quality, but I promise the block looks better in real life Tongue

After a few crazy weeks of being on vacation then starting school, I'm back to sewing! Here's my block for caroDIYnamite. I really like how this one turned out; the fabrics are lovely! [the block isn't wonky like in the picure]

I finally finished MissDisney's block. It looks wonky because I didn't give it a final pressing. The glitter from the pine needles fabric was melting onto my iron and really effed it up, so I opted to stop pressing.

Here's my block with glittergirl94's other fabric. It got me feeling all autumny Smiley

Fishie's block! For some reason, this block went together really fast. I like it.

Here's one for angelbum. I wish I could've highlighted the little animals more, but some of their heads got cut off Sad

and a block for 1boy1gril2kitty2. The white is so bright! This was a nice one to work on.

and a Christmas block for Klum78. yay, Christmas!

and a scrappy block for ajanderson78.

Here is my LAST string star (finally!) for Homerof2. How fun Smiley

For the people who are in 2 groups with me or sent fabric that logistically didn't work with that crazy block, I am using Carol Doak's book, Simply Sensational 9 Patch Stars. Like everyone else who has this book, I LOVE it.
Here's a block for JQA. This is unit 8 + unit 21. I didn't want to lose the pretty patterns in the fabrics, so I kept it simple.

and here's a block for ajanderson. I added the fabric in the center.I think it was units 7 and 37.

Here's a smaller block for athenamat. It's only 10.5 (10" finished) but I used the cd from the 9-patch book to reduce the pattern size. It's the Iowa block.

Here is another block for Athenamat. I really wanted to make her a string star, but I didn't think I had enough fabric and didn't want to really screw up! Here's the 'Wisconsin block' though I have no affiliation with Wisconsin besides liking this block!

Here's my block with 1boy1girl1kitty2's cowboy fabrics. I already traded her all my cowboy fabrics, otherwise I'd have thrown some of mine in there Tongue I DID however, use the leaf print which I got from Missdisney!

Here is Audrey's block. I ended up really liking this block in the end, though I  was really doubting my placement, etc. the whole time. I used MissDisney's leaf print again as I needed a whole lot more green fabric because of the paper piecing than it looks like. Paper piecing is so annoying, but for some reason I still love it!

okay! That's all for me!

30  Re: DIY Kit Swap Round 10 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by FlashleyAshley on: June 29, 2008 03:35:28 PM
I got the most awesome indoor gardening/bento  kit from squidget today!

First, I grow the food. I got seeds (eggplant, chives, lettuce, radishes) and a watering can, as well as some little pegs to put in the soil label the plants.

and I will put the chives in my horrorpops pot! Squidget and I both like the horrorpops, a Danish psychobilly band, and I got to meet the singer last week and so I was super excited to get this.

then I will cook the food. I got two vintage cookbooks full of funny (and really yummy looking!) recipes, as well as an instructional booklet for the gardening and bento made by squidget. I also got a book on indoor gardening.

then I will eat the food and pack it cutely in a little box Cheesy She gave me two ice cube molds that I will use for molding all kinds of stuff. She also sent some cute flower cookie cutters, hello kitty boxes and ice pack, pocky (yum! these have been eaten already), nori and some suspending gelatin stuff that I have never seen before but I'm curious to use. And stickers, too. wow!

and the thing i almost forgot to post because I was going to use it for lunch: a dinosaur sandwich cutter!

as you can see, I was super spoiled by squidget! I'll be getting some soil today and starting my little urban garden this week. Thanks squidget- I hope you enjoy your kit as much as I did mine!
