21  Washington / Washington: West / Knitting in Puyallup/Tacoma on: August 08, 2006 02:42:51 PM
Does anyone have a lys in Puyallup/Tacoma area they really like?  I've been to Lamb's Ear, but that's about it.  The one I liked in Kent closed, and it seems like there just isn't much around unless I go to Seattle!
22  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / What have I gotten myself into? on: July 22, 2006 12:33:02 PM
I've been wanting to try socks, I have!  I really want to knit knee highs, but I thought I'd go easy on myself and start with these http://www.magknits.com/warm04/patterns/pomsquad.pdf#search='pom%20squad%20socks'  Aren't they cute?  Well, I've never done a figure 8 cast on, so that had me frustrated last night, and I thought I'd be safe and order bamboo needles so they wouldn't be as slippery and I wouldn't have to worry about a needle sliding out.  (They are size 1)  Are you KIDDING me here?  I can barely see the stitches to do the increasing and I swear they are going to snap at any second!  I may as well have used toothpicks!  I searched craftster, but as far as I can tell nobody has posted about these...  has anyone made them?  This isn't a Q, just a little venting as I doubt my husband will offer me the empathy desire.   Wink
23  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Brimmed Hat Q on: June 01, 2006 02:50:34 PM
What do you use for the brim of a hat (like the newsboy from S&B)?  I've never been able to figure out what the plastic mesh or whatever they talk about is...  Thanks!
24  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Felted Lopi Purse on: April 13, 2006 01:32:04 PM
Does anyone happen to have the pattern for the Lopi Purse (not the Lopi tote)?  There is a picture of one in the completed projects, but she doesn't have the pattern anymore and it's not on the web anymore...  Thanks!
25  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Felting Intarsia on: March 05, 2006 01:08:30 PM
I would like to make a felted tote with an intarsia pattern.  I'm a little worried about the durability of the inside.  How well does the carried yarn felt?  I'm concerned about things snagging it when I put them in the bag and I don't really want to line it.
26  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Need a first time sock pattern on: February 18, 2006 09:40:26 AM
Does anyone know of an easy sock pattern for a first timer?  I would love to make my friend a pair of fun socks (preferably knee highs) but I've never knit a pair of socks before.  I'd like a good pair that she can actually wear with shoes, not chunky "house" socks.  Thanks!
27  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Felting help! on: September 08, 2005 08:08:30 PM
I felted the messenger bag from the last knitty and just spent FOREVER sewing on ONE pocket.  It's killin me!  I thought I'd be slick and just do it on the sewing machine until I realized that the two felted pieces won't fit under the foot.  There MUST be a better way - those needles are SO dull!

Any ideas???
28  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Mag Knits Sophie bag on: August 24, 2005 05:55:56 PM
Has anyone knit this bag?  It doesn't say what kind of decreases to use - does it matter?  It's felted, so I'm hoping I can just k2tog each time!

Thanks for your help!
29  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Stepping Out Coat yarn help! on: August 18, 2005 05:27:28 PM
I'm planning to knit the "Stepping Out Coat" (although for the life of me I can't remember what book it's in right now - maybe Hip to Knit...)  They used Muench GGH Fantastica (70% wool, 10% alpaca, 15% acrylic, 5% nylon).  It's a super chunky yarn in a great multi (gold, rust, blue, and red).  This yarn is discontinued though  Cry  Does anyone have a good alternative that won't end up costing a fortune?

Thanks!
30  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knitty.com satchel on: August 15, 2005 01:58:51 PM
I'm nearing the finish line on the satchel and it's going fairly well, although I didn't do the i-cord bind off, I hope that I don't regret that...  I'm a little nervous about attaching the strap after felting.  Should I use the same yarn I knit with or thread?  I want it to be sturdy, it's for my husband to carry to work and he'll have his computer in it many days...

Any suggestions?  Has anyone else made it?

Thanks!
