What about a simple hat? That would teach you shaping and you could work it flat or in the round.

Thank you guys for all the links. I'd never seen MochiMochi's stuff before. I've been trying to get a hold of jess hutchinson's book, but I can never find anyone selling it.

Oh, I've seen Craftyalien's stuff and it is wonderful. It just seems like there are so many more patterns for crochet. Thank you to everyone who posted reasources.

The only ones I've really liked are on etsy and I'm going to order those, but I'm really finding hard to find other nice patterns.

I see a ton for crocheted ones, but very few for knit ones. All the cute and funky ones seem to be crocheted.
