I love the swirly bits, too!

Just a note that I really won't have computer access from tomorrow (5/15) until 5/20, so if you PM me, please have patience.  I'll get back to you, I promise!

A friend of mine is getting married in two weeks (a: eek! and b: it's a week after college graduation.  How's she's managing this is beyond me), and I wanted to give her a present that would last generations.  So I wove her a shawl! Her favorite color is (obviously) blue.

Bamboo, tencel, silk, and lurex (all approximately 20/2) woven in plain weave on a Harrisville 4 harness 36 inch loom.  The lurex was woven with another strand, since it's not strong enough to stand up in a warp by itself.  About 22 inches by 62 inches.

The drape on it is fantastic! It's basically weightless and really, really soft.

The most wonderful thing for me is that, when I graduated last year from the same college, a friend who had graduated the year before pulled me aside and gave me a ceramic bowl she had hand-turned and glazed herself at her new job in a pottery studio.  She told me that, no matter what expectations came out of a schmancy liberal arts education, you could be whoever you wanted to be and do whatever you wanted to do.  Fast forward a year, and I'm working in a fiber store, weaving, spinning, and dyeing for a living, and I'm exactly where I want to be.  I guess I just want to pass on the message to the next generation.  (Plus I live in Maine still and I get to do photoshoots on the beach!)

Here we go! This is crafty_dame's page for me, which I really love.

I'm intrigued that the first two pieces I've received use the same color scheme of turquoise and brown--two of my favorite colors!
