5  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Down -quilt? on: November 08, 2007 04:02:38 PM
I have a extra down comforter, but no heat.
I am making a quilt.(its mostly all cotton fabrics, some jersey. I'd do the backing in Cotton)
I've been tossing the idea around of using the down feathers IN my quilt, instead of batting. In my mind I see feathers and lots of mess.
Then I also see myself all cuddled up in the warmest, sweetest quilt ever.

What say you Quilting gods? If I was able to get the majority of the feathers out (cut & dump?) would a square pattern to keep it together ( almost the same as the down comforter has ) Or am I just nuts - I'll be finding tons of feathers every day for the rest of my life and I should just make it into a cover....some how.
6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / STARBUCK from scratch. on: November 01, 2007 04:10:13 PM
My costume could not have happened with out the help of two sites
http://www.thestormhaven.com/BSGCostume.html
which I found only two weeks ago. and
http://www.skaro.com/nbg_cos.html
Which spurrned me to make my costume six months ago.

besides my Doc's, wig & official pins/patches, it's all me baby. PHEW!  I drafted a pattern with muslin first and I think it turned out really well. I don't have the belt loops but by 4 in the morning I was over belt loops and missing buttons. The hardest thing was getting the shoulder doe suede to match with the arm doe suede. Even though only 4 people knew who I was, I still love it !

NOW - who wants to join the Battlestar swap ??

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / clueless & drafting my own pattern ( darts anyone?) on: October 23, 2007 04:57:25 PM
Hey ya'll

I've got out my Ho'made dummy and I've got the front of my Kara Thrace costume looking good but here's my question for the back. :
I'll be putting in darts in the back, is there a 'rule' or thumb for where you place your darts? IE: they are always 2&1/2 inches from the spine on either side. -or- follow the edge your shoulder blade & there your dart shall be.
I know its not of the utmost importance for a halloween costume, but always good to have information for further endeavors.    Thanks for any help!!
8  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / Where To Find Things To Recycle / Find a thrift store ANYWHERE? on: July 01, 2007 03:46:53 PM

10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / morning after owl on: May 22, 2007 05:25:16 PM
I keep seeing all these great owls here on craftster & I wanted to make my own, but have it be my own. Here he is. He's hardly ever sober enough for us to have a conversation, so i have no idea wwhat his name is. He's up at night flaapping around my room & falling down, sleeping during the day - Here he is napping in my shrine. Enjoy!
