2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / String Ornaments on: August 07, 2010 09:49:29 AM
String Ornaments

Materials:
  • String or thin cord (any colors or different colors)
Water balloons (regular balloons would be to big)
    White glue
Hand pump (in case you are like me and cant blow up the balloons)
    Water
    Small mixing bowl
Waxed paper, or paper to cover floor
Clips and string to hang balloons while they dry, or set them on wax paper
    Glitter, optional
    Sharp pin or sewing needle
    Tweezers
    Large eye needle
    Ribbon

Step 1: Blow up balloons

Step 2: Fill bowl with half water half white glue and mix
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/gigglessherwood/crafts/002-57.jpg

Step 3: Dip the string in glue mix make sure it is well coated and remove excess glue (it might be helpful to cut string into smaller pieces to work with*
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/gigglessherwood/crafts/003-38.jpg

Step 4: Wrap the string around the balloon, have fun with it and go nuts wrapping the string around. You can even use different colors string. Cut string when you are done wrapping and now sprinkle on glitter, again have fun choose a contrasting glitter, chunky glitter, multi0colored glitter , maybe just glitter half, just the bottom or top whatever*

Step 5: Lay balls on wax paper to dry dont let them touch. Rotate balls every hour or so to dry evenly. OOOOORRRRRR hang them on a string and clips them on with binder clips or clothes pins even  a paper clip will work. (plus they will dry faster and more even and now coming back to move them all around)

Step 6: Let dry for 24 hours
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/gigglessherwood/crafts/007-16.jpg

Step 7: when string is completely dry and hardened take a sharp pin and pop balloon (if you are scared just make a tiny hole near the neck of the balloon and the air will leak out slow and wont make a popping noise, or have your hubby do it for you guys love to destroy)
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/gigglessherwood/crafts/008-16.jpg

Step 8: Remove pieces of balloon wreckage with tweezers.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/gigglessherwood/crafts/009-16.jpg

Step 9: Cut ribbon to about 6 inch (or more if you like)pieces and loop through ornaments and tie a knot you may need a needle to get the ribbon through small spaces.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/gigglessherwood/crafts/016-5.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/gigglessherwood/crafts/017-4.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/gigglessherwood/crafts/018-4.jpg

Now you have pretty ornaments to hang on your tree, or wherever you want to put them 
*You can also wrap the balloons first with string then dunk or paint on the glue mixture, this process is much messier but still fun
