41  Re: Patterns for monkeys that are not made of socks? in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions by AWynkoop on: August 30, 2005 09:50:18 AM
Just to let you know.... The hands are a great! I was so proud I showed them to everyone! "look at my Little monkey Hands!!" I was just silly!
KP does mean knit and purl into the same stitch.
I used red heart acrylic medium worsted since it was for my kid. I did not swatch so he is pretty big.
for the hands (since I used acrylic instead of cotton) I had to adjust the pattern.
(use the pattern for a guide)
I cast on 18 stitches
row 1-12 :stocking stitch
first finger:(imagine first finger as the pinkie)work 12, turn. (sl1, P5, turn) (sl1, K5, turn) for 10 rows. thread yarn through all finger stitches and leave a long enough end to sew.
second finger:pick up 3 stitches, turn. P3, P3 from other needle.  Work the same way as first finger
third finger: just like second finger.
for the thumb I just knit a rectangle 6 stitches 10 rows and attached it to the side of the hand.
stitch all the sides of the fingers. Now you have a cute monkey hand to show all your friends!

as soon as I can figure out picture post (I am a much better knitter than photographer!) I will try to get some pictures up! Good luck!  Feel free to ask if you need help! Gotta keep the crafster good karma flowing!
Here is a closeup of the hand

and here is monkey in all his naked glory!
