So cute!  Both the sweater and the puppy!  When they get too big for socks, you might be interested in making  "jackets" for them using sweatshirt sleeves.  Thrift and charity stores are great places for sweatshirts in many colors and sizes if you don't already have sweatshirts ready to be converted.  And they won't fray like socks will.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy making it, but it looks fantastic.  Good for you for sticking with it, your step-daughter will love it, either framed or as a pillow (I'd vote for matting and framing, she'll want to keep this for a long time).
