1  Re: Black Cat Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by SapphireWind on: May 06, 2006 08:15:32 AM
Well I haven't heard from my partner but the DCN says it got there on the 3rd so here's what I sent her  Grin

I went with the black cat = witchy theme, lol, and sent her my specialty (lucky girl I loved how this one turned out and wanted to keep it, lol, I usually sell such embellished ones only at larger pagan events)

The capelet (rather than full cape or cloak since it's almost summer)  is reversible microsuede with variegated thread doing the embroidered Celtic design, the reverse is black satin (thought it went ok with the black cat theme, lol).  The hat is pre-embroidered faux silk and can either be worn or used as a decoration, I wore a similar one but in "snake" to the last harry potter book party.  The small red thing is a crocheted cat "collar" more like a necklace I left the ends undone so that she can fit Luciferia purrfectly, the other red thing is a matching belt for her.  I also already sent an ebook on cat treats that I had purchased for her.

Excuse what looks like a mess in the background of the pics, lol, that is my fabic shelf (one of 5 fabric stash areas ::: wiggling eyebrows :::   Cheesy )

Thank You Thank You Thank You!  This is fantabulous!  oooooohhhhhh, now I wish I would have sent your dress earlier but I wanted to pop something in there for kiddo  Grin I'll send monday morning after I drop the kiddos off to school.  Now, I won't show you a pic of what you're getting though I know you're going to love it (embroidered hello kitty... hint... daisies... hint... blue... hint) but here's a preview of the fabric for what kiddo is getting (saw your nursery decorations at your picture gallery so I guessed it's a girl, lol)

You so very much rock!  And you've got me in purple, Dave's taking me to dinner cause I look so purty  Roll Eyes

Yeah the little purse rocks, goes around my neck like a neck pouch and fits my little business card holder (which is also my wallet, lol) I wish the flash hadn't been so bad because it didn't show the dragons on the box lemme see if I can get another pic real quick....

The earrings that she sent that aren't a part of the set are dangling on the flip flops they kinda blend in on the pic though.

Ok, Chelsa hasn't had time to get pics up so I've got clearance to show you the yummies that I sent her  Grin

My specialties are sewing and crochet mainly, those being divided into goddess gowns which are a type of modified kaftan/chemise (but for Chelsa I made an actual kaftan with a hood, I embroidered a design (3 hoopings) around the collar in blue which is her favorite color) Cloaks & Capes (I went with the more youthful cape for her), and freehand crochet.  Pattern drafted from a kameez that I had to my partners size specifications. Material is a midweight cotton gauze

And the cape done in alova suede with cranes emboidered on the front and the dragon on the back great for chilly nights at the beach.

The crocheted poncho thing was inspired by waves and stones (which is what I named it) as my partner loves the beach and can also be worn as a tube top cover or a bathing suit skirt (to cover) or even over another skirt.  I like doing multi purpose items for more options.  This design was done sans pattern, it is another of my freehand creations.  The bottom of each loop section has a set of metallic beads dangling which is not only pretty but helps to weight it down and give it more of the rippling effect.

And last but not least are the extra goodies I tossed in since there was still room in the box  Grin A few pieces of fabric with embroidery designs, a white ball of funky yarn with nubblies, a cool macrame book from back in the day, and of course a thank you card.

6  Hippie(y)ish Dress Tutorial.. part 1 of my uber easy garment series in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by SapphireWind on: April 11, 2006 09:53:06 AM
I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to post this but I hope so, lol.  This is the first in a series, these tutorials are not for sale, are my intelictual property, etc etc.

Ok, not my best tutorial ever or video taking for that matter but it'll give y'all the basic idea of how to make an A line hippyish dress using elastic thread at the bodice  Grin This movie is almost 11 minutes long and covers everything  pretty much start to finish and how to use elastic thread ::: nod ::: great stuff.

If you have any questions post them here and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

Note in the video I have the bodice measurement at 45 inches, I really should have done 50 inches (remember there's elastic involved so it will still fit my 40ish chest measurement)

Note: when using 60 wide fabric  your fabric layout will be like this... selvages will be the top or bottom

The video tutorial is at
http://home.comcast.net/~sapphirestitches/tutorials/hippiedresstutorial.wmv
you'll need windows media player or something that will play a wmv file to view it.

Enjoy!

P.S. ...to see the list of great tutorials put together by starmeg (I just found this goodie this morning thank you again for putting them all in one post!)  goto http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=76112.0

8  Purple Padme Picnic Dress, Tube Dress, and Embroidered Towels in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by SapphireWind on: March 21, 2006 06:29:32 AM
Ok, it took me a few days to get this up here (I had to figure out how to resize the photos in my new graphics program, lol) but here are the pictures of the items that I did for my friend Coyotelady's wedding which was on Saturday (congratulations again suz!!)

First up we have my daughters tube dress, I used elastic thread for the bodice.

coyotelady's purple padme Picnic dress.  I had her purchase her corset, but the chemise, skirt and cape were made by me

and the gift basket that my friend Sara and I gave her.  I embroidered the towels in this basket

and just in case anyone wonders what I was wearing, lol

I did not make my outfit it was purchased but I'm going to use it as a template to make other outfits.  If you'd like to read the full descriptions on the photos it's in my album at http://www.craftster.org/pictures/showgallery.php?ppuser=33964&cat=500

9  Re: Wrap Pants with only 1 Seam in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by SapphireWind on: June 22, 2005 03:36:33 PM
I ditched one set of drawstrings kinda so that there will only be an "outside" tie rather than an in and out one after having tried my pants on  Grin to to this I simply took the hook and eyes off an old bra.  Here I scooted it up so I could get a pic of it I am wearing it in the back here but you can wear it in the front too of course, lol.
