1  Orange What's His Name in Recipes and Cooking Tips by krebstar5 on: February 13, 2009 11:55:35 AM
After watching the episode were Alton Brown makes his own knock off of the Orange Julius, I decided to try it myself.  I found a recipe online and made a few adjustments to make it extra orange-y.  Recipe below the pic.

My Recipe for an Orange Whats His Name

(makes about 2 servings)

6-8oz fresh squeezed orange juice (I think I squeezed 2 oranges)
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup water
2 tbs sugar (I used rounded, but this is more of a matter of taste)
1/2 tsp vanilla
5-6 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in blender until nice and smooth.

Mind you, this recipe is pretty flexible. I wanted something like an Orange Julius but a bit stronger on the orange and less sweet. Im pretty happy with the results and hope to make it more often in the summer.

2  Cake: The Best Way to Apologize in Dessert by krebstar5 on: January 29, 2009 06:50:03 AM
The story goes like this:

I was playing Left 4 Dead with two friends of mine. During the level that takes place in a hospital, we found ourselves holding our own in a supply closet as the zombie hoard rushed at us. In the excitement, I realized that I had molotov cocktail in my inventory. I threw it into the hall at the zombies and got all proud of myself as they burned away. Next thing I know I hear my friends voice through the computer, AHHHHH!!!! Im on FIRE! Sure enough, his character ran into the hallway covered in flames. What are you doing?! he cried.

Then it dawned on me. Not only was his character on fire, but all of us were. I looked down at my health meter as it began to plummet. Problem was, the whole thing struck me as being really funny. I didnt even think for a second that the game would be clever enough to realize that the zombies werent the only flammable thing in the immediate area. Woops!

Not wanting to cause any hard feelings, I showed up with this when I went to his house the next day:

I am happy to report that I was forgiven right away.

3  Halloween Mini-Cakes (with pics!) in Halloween Decor and Parties by krebstar5 on: October 30, 2006 07:40:47 AM
I made these little cakes for a Bake-off I am having with a co-worker.  The inside cake is pumpkin spice and the frosting is cream cheese based.  The deorations themselves are make with gum-paste, but I think I might try fondant or something else next time.  As I've never worked with fondant before, is there anyone who can tell me which is better for forming little figures and such?

4  Bubonic, The Plague of the Seas (stuffed pirate mouse) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by krebstar5 on: August 22, 2006 08:59:26 AM
I finished and sold this little trouble-maker last night.  Thankfully, he has now given up his life of crime and will instead be a desk ornament at a local veterinary clinic.

I wish the pics could be a little better, but he has an anchor on his eye patch and a gold tooth.

5  Re: Second Sock a-long in Knitalongs by krebstar5 on: March 21, 2006 06:52:55 PM

All done!  My socks might not be perfect, but they are all set and ready to wear.  It's funny how you can notice all the mistakes after it's too late, but I'll just pretend that little mistakes give my socks charm.  So anyway, submitted for your approval....my random patterned socks:

Thanks for the motivation guys!  I can't wait to see everyone else's finished socks.  Grin

8  Re: Please post your best costume... in Halloween Costumes by krebstar5 on: November 08, 2005 05:50:30 AM
My best costume isn't really my costume, and it's not really one costume, and it's not exactly the entire costume.  This year the Boys From the County Hell chose the Electric Mayhem Band as their Halloween theme (after some enthusiastic lobbying from me).  I made the heads and select parts of their costumes from the neck down, though they deserve loads of credit for coming through on the majority of the costumes (and shaving their legs, in Janice's case.  That's taking one for the team.)

This might very well be the most amazing this I have ever seen.  Honestly....   Shocked

I posted this over at "Best Costume" but it is this year's costume.  I'm The Bowler from Mystery Men.  My friend made the bowling ball, complete with embedded skull!

Okay, here is this year's costume.  I wore it last weekend for an early costume party.  I'm the Bowler from Mystery Men.  Someone once told me that I looked like Janeane Garofolo, so I figured it might be fun to run with it.

If you look closely, the bowling ball actually has a skull in it, just like the movie.  A very cool friend of mine cast it for me.  It was really hard to carry around.  I think it weighs 15 lbs.
