1  Dresser in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by GinghamPolkadots on: August 12, 2014 10:32:11 AM
I swear this is the last post about my furniture today!  Here is the dresser we re-did.  It was a pretty gross pealing mess when we found it at a garage sale for $5, it had been sitting in someone's garage for over 20 years.  It had mud dauber nests inside and smelled rather strange cat pee like smell to it.  Our bedroom is a weird dark denim blue color, so my normal turquoise color wouldn't work in there, so we painted it with orange milk paint, it took a couple coats, but I love the way it turned out, we also used dark wax and clear wax on this piece.  The marble top, thankfully, came with the dresser when we bought it.  To combat the smell inside we painted it with dark teal semi-gloss latex paint.  I wasn't 100% on the orange when we chose it, but I love it now!

2  Hubby Side Table in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by GinghamPolkadots on: August 12, 2014 10:21:43 AM
So along the lines of redecorating, I made this side table, originally to hold our 8-track and turntable, but then we found something better for that so this became the hubby's side table.  This started out as a very 70's side table, wood grain and kind of blah.  I spray painted it green and then sanded that down, added dark wax and then light wax.  The top I left the way it was, so that when I finish my side table they will somewhat match, though they'll be different colors.

3  Map Side Table in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by GinghamPolkadots on: August 12, 2014 09:59:33 AM
We recently sold everything (mostly) and moved 1500 miles to live in rural Kansas close to my parents.  Because of this, we had to re-furnish our house once we got here.  Trying to furnish a room for an 11 year old seemed like it was going to be somewhat difficult, until I remembered that my parents have an entire Quonset hut full of furniture from auctions.  So here is my first piece, it's a half circle table that I re-did for my step-son.  The top was laminate and half of it was missing.  I pulled it all off, sanded and sanded and sanded until it was smooth.  Then I Modpodged a old local map to the top and went over the whole thing with dark wax and clear wax to give it even more of an aged look.  I love it and he was appreciative, as appreciative as an 11 year old who's grown up with a crafty stepmom can be.  I love the way it turned out!
