I don't have the pattern but I think I know where you went wrong.
In step 1, your sewing the two edges of the right sides together of the outer fabric.
In step 2, your doing the same thing to the lining fabric, but skipping the open section on the side.
In step 3, layer these, one inside the other, with right sides together.  Match up the unfinished edges and stitch around the top of them.  I'm pretty sure this is where things got out of wack for you.  If it still doesn't work for you, let me know.

I don't have little dots but the yellow is fresh and creamy and the green resembles.... dead olives.   I tried adjusting my monitor and it did help... more of a pea green now.

whew... I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the green is a little off and I'm glad it's just a monitor issue, I'll try adjusting mine.  I didn't say anything cuz it's not a very pressing issue but I'll admit I was wondering why someone would pick that particular color of green lol

swaps are horrible things anyways... once you start it's hard to stop 

The is a post on here somewhere about mounting them on your wall to use as a headboard.  They also look cool if you hinge 3 together to use as a room divider.

It would be a great idea to collect one from each of your swap partners or to have it's own swap... where everyone mailed a button to each person.

I work at a museum and it was recommended to store things in ziplocs, not neccesarily sealed unless they're mildewed or need to be frozen to preserve it.
