41  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / tshirt rug on: April 22, 2008 10:39:37 PM

finished this tonight for my friend jim...it's about two by three feet, made of old tshirts--a nice recycled project for earth day!  it's all half-double crochet, and nothing fancy, but it's nice to be done with it...tshirts make awesome bath rugs.  Smiley
42  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / somewhat misguided button-embellished tote bag on: April 21, 2008 09:28:36 PM

i made this sort of enormous tote bag for a friend of mine for her birthday.  it's pretty well-constructed, though i decided to go "free form" on the button embellishment in the front, figuring more is more...but it got a little out of hand.  still, it's a useful bag and the love is surely showing when i spent an afternoon sewing all these little--and big!--guys on there, right?

the button-encrusted area is about eight or so inches in diameter...
43  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / paisley cat head applique tshirt on: March 17, 2008 07:58:21 PM

for some reason, this paisley said "cat head" to me...i made a tshirt for my momand then i decided i needed one, too, so i made this on a ratty old black tshirt.  it's a little kindergarten teacher, but i think it's cute.  it's got double-sided fusible interfacing underneath and then i sewed around the outside with a zig-zag.  the nose and eyes are buttons with embroidered whiskers and mouth.
44  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / button skull tshirt on: March 17, 2008 07:54:17 PM

i'm totally in love with this shirt, even though it's technically just my "practice" one and it's not got perfect edges and layout...i had the idea a while back, but i had so many other things going on that i couldn't get around to trying it.  i'm currently working on a skull that's about the same, a touch bigger, that i think i'm going to applique to a bag.  it took me a few hours to sew on all the buttons, but, as i said, i love it!
sorry i don't have a picture of it on, but the buttons are all little shirt buttons and the whole skull is about 4"x5" at the outside.
45  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / thick and thin scarf on: October 30, 2007 10:40:02 PM

super easy scarf that i think came out very cute--unfortunately, my camera is dead, but i just scanned the bit to give you the idea.  i made one skinny--about ten stictches--and one fat--at about 20 stitches--and it's all just garter stitch on fat needles, two rows with a fat yarn, like plymouth encore or lion thick and quick and then two rows knitted with a think, smooth cotton, like paton's grace or crochet cotten.  the thick one somehow seems sort of elegant, like an evening wrap or something (i'm possibly delusional) and the skinny one is more sporty, both with the same yarns, in the same colors.
i foresee a lot of christmas presents of these, as they knit up so quickly, but still look cool!
46  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / beaded guy with a button frame on: October 30, 2007 10:35:21 PM

i made this as a birthday card, sort of, little thing for my friend alice.  it's beads, copper wire, buttons in mother of pearl and pounded iron on some paper i made.  the letter is from one of those black velvet signboards that you press the letters in.
i also knitted her a very cool (i think) scarf out of thick and thin yarn:

just home from the party, so forgive any slurred words on my part!  Wink
47  COOKING / Dessert / savory pumpkin-corn pudding on: September 09, 2007 07:29:39 PM
i whipped this up this afternoon and was pleased with how it came out...it goes great with a green salad and some soft corn or flour tortillas.
quantities are approximate, as i don't tend to measure much...cooking is an art, not a science, right?  Wink
preheat oven to 400 degrees--

2 cups pureed pumpkin
2 cups corn (i used frozen)
3 eggs
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup hot salsa--i used a smoky chipotle cooked salsa;  i think
cooked would be better than fresh
crumbled up tortilla chips--a couple cups

use some non-stick stuff on the bottom of about a 3QT baking dish--throw the crumbled up chips on the bottom of it.

beat the eggs and then whisk in first the pumpkin and then all the rest of the stuff--throw in some extra spices, chiles, olives, whatever, if you want.  i plan to experiment with other additions later!
spoon it onto the tortilla chips and bake for half an hour.  i served with a little sour cream and some extra salsa on the top and it was YUM.

48  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / pink dotted dress...that's a whole lot of pink... on: August 27, 2007 06:02:28 PM

i got this fabric at SCRAP for basically nothing...it's the same fabric i used for my pink elephant applique tshirt!
i was going to try to follow a pattern, but then i just sort of forgot about that idea because i didn't want to wait!~boy, i look strangely smug in that picture considering...Wink
the little bands around the straps hold my bra strap, to keep everything where it belongs, and the pin i made to cover some weird puckering that probably would have been avoided if i'd followed a pattern...

i'm currently working on a black belt that i think might help to break up all the pink, but i'm not sure exactly what i'm doing with it right now...
49  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / pink elephant applique tshirt on: August 27, 2007 04:06:02 PM

he's sportin' the googly eye button i got recently in a button swap, too!  here's a fairly inelegant action shot:

i'm a sucker for these applique tshirts...no one else has anything like them at school and they don't take long at all to make!

i thought i would share this site in case you're interested in such things and haven't seen it before.  it has just a ton of information ABOUT different types of ephemera as well as links and examples of different types of stuff.  it's really loaded with a ton of cool things that i just thought some of you might enjoy...
