3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / handmade postcards for march of 2013 on: March 25, 2013 01:33:33 PM

i made another chunk of postcards to mail out today--i'm not giving myself rules, just trying to send out a little pile every month or so.  here are a couple of the highlights...

4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / postcards a gogo on: January 07, 2013 05:34:37 PM

i decided that i'm going to do my part to keep the post office in business this year, and spent the weekend obsessively making 18 postcards for various friends out and about in the world.  i chose the project on a whim and then got a little...well, i already used the word "obsessively", so you get the picture.  every card was unique, but they fell into a couple themes, mostly vintage fashion, animals, insects and then some stamps and blocks i'd carved.  here are a couple examples.  i uploaded all the scans to my craftster gallery if you want to see any of the others...i'm hoping to keep the project up, though i don't intend to make 18 in a go every month!
here are some pics of a couple more...i hated to let them go in the mailbox today!

5  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / crochet bats with googly eyes on: October 27, 2011 10:32:27 AM

bat by drunkenlibraria, on Flickr
i made a few bats for halloween--i crocheted them in three pieces, two wings and a body, and then sewed them together and glued on glow-in-the-dark googly eyes.  this big boy is two strands of black yarn with a P hook, i think it was, and the little guys are one strand with a J hook.

i think they came out super cute and they didn't take long to make, once i got my wings down.  Smiley  i'm happy to share the wing "pattern" if anyone wants it--you can make a bat in half an hour or so, so it's great for last minute battifying.  Smiley
6  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / emergency meal owls on: September 30, 2011 10:27:16 AM
i made these for a friend's charity ho-down...each is filled with a cup and a half of rice and beans, so in case of emergency you can open up the sewn flap and stave off hunger for a day or so.  Wink

and

pink owl by drunkenlibraria, on Flickr
each owl is made with several strands held together and is about a foot or so in diameter.  the stuffing and beans-and-rice are enclosed in a fabric lining, so the inner pillow can also be removed if the outside needs to be washed.  hopefully they'll make a couple buck for breast cancer research!  just thought i'd share--i miss them already.  Smiley
7  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / crochet futurama brainslug on: September 30, 2011 09:54:37 AM
made for my friend peita...it's got long ties on either side, so she can wear it in traditional futurama style...

it's about four inches in diameter and maybe six inches tall...was very pleased about how the slugbottom ruffled...

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / mushroom applique flat-front apron on: August 11, 2011 06:22:35 PM

this is a lined, flat-front apron i made with a raspberry-colored cotton sheet, some cute mushroom print fabric, unbleached canvas for the big pockets and then more off the colored fabrics for the pleated pocket and mushroom applique.  i think i will also sew some pearl buttons on the little button placket, but i haven't gotten around to it yet.

i gave it a fairly wise waist band and a big fluffy bow for the back.

here's a picture of the mushroom!  Smiley
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / owl applique tshirt for back-to-school on: August 11, 2011 06:03:42 PM

today is my next-to-last real day of summer vacation before i start the new school year on monday, so i decided to make a tshirt in the spirit of back-to-school...though it's a little bosomy to wear to work, i'll be thinking "back-to-school" in my heart and neighborhood.  Smiley
ironed some double-sided fusible on the various recycled tshirt layers, tacked them down with the iron and then sewed them together--they're all pretty thin tshirts, so it's not particularly thick or stiff even though there are several layers to the owl.  the eyes are a stack of some strange one-holed buttons held on with a couple regular dark mother-of-pearl buttons.
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / felt shag rug on: December 19, 2010 02:39:28 PM

felt rug by drunkenlibraria, on Flickr
made this rug yesterday with felt sewn to a canvas dropcloth backing--it's about 2'x2.5' or so, most wool felt mixed with some cheap acryllic.  took a while to sew, but not difficult and i think it's super cute!
