21  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / mushroom applique flat-front apron on: August 11, 2011 06:22:35 PM

this is a lined, flat-front apron i made with a raspberry-colored cotton sheet, some cute mushroom print fabric, unbleached canvas for the big pockets and then more off the colored fabrics for the pleated pocket and mushroom applique.  i think i will also sew some pearl buttons on the little button placket, but i haven't gotten around to it yet.

i gave it a fairly wise waist band and a big fluffy bow for the back.

here's a picture of the mushroom!  Smiley
22  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / owl applique tshirt for back-to-school on: August 11, 2011 06:03:42 PM

today is my next-to-last real day of summer vacation before i start the new school year on monday, so i decided to make a tshirt in the spirit of back-to-school...though it's a little bosomy to wear to work, i'll be thinking "back-to-school" in my heart and neighborhood.  Smiley
ironed some double-sided fusible on the various recycled tshirt layers, tacked them down with the iron and then sewed them together--they're all pretty thin tshirts, so it's not particularly thick or stiff even though there are several layers to the owl.  the eyes are a stack of some strange one-holed buttons held on with a couple regular dark mother-of-pearl buttons.

i wish i thought we'd have some natural light at some point this week...the colors aren't exactly like that in real life--but close enough!

thanks!  feels great on your feet, too. Smiley

felt rug by drunkenlibraria, on Flickr
made this rug yesterday with felt sewn to a canvas dropcloth backing--it's about 2'x2.5' or so, most wool felt mixed with some cheap acryllic.  took a while to sew, but not difficult and i think it's super cute!
26  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: "mine is a life of the mind"...reverse applique, embroidery and a dose of crazy on: September 10, 2010 08:21:02 AM
the fabric is a more vibrant green in person and it is very bizarre.
i put it here because it's a conceptual piece, but it could be moved if that's what should happen.

i ordered the funny bunny fabric from fabric.com and then this happened.  i embroidered the lettering in red over black sharpie, going for the crazed mess on purpose, though it wouldn't have looked much better if i'd have tried for "neat and tidy"...the red zig zag and such is machine.  everything looks better with red zig zag.  the canvas will thread out a little more before i'm done with it, i'm sure.
i've got a second piece on the back burner with some flaming raccoons!
28  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: green tentacles cardigan vest! on: April 24, 2010 11:22:51 AM
thanks!
i realize looking at the pictures that i should have straightened it up a little more on the dress form before i took the pictures, but i was just excited to post it.  Smiley
29  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / green tentacles cardigan vest! on: April 24, 2010 10:42:56 AM
it's a little goofy, but i like it.  reminds me of some hippie tree hugger pile of flesh from the 70s that went a little wrong...
Wink

i'm putting a button, or buttons, to hold the front in shape a little better, but i can't decide if i like anything i have, or if i should go shopping for something else.  in any case, it's very drapey in the front, and slightly longer in the front than the back.

this is a spread of the front part, so you can see what i sort of thought i was doing there:

these are the buttons i'm considering:

what do you think?
30  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: My colorful granny square bedcover (pillow coming soon) on: March 28, 2010 05:07:45 PM
what a classic!  Smiley  the colors look RAAR grr ugggh together.  i can never seem to make two squares that are exactly the same size, so i think this sort of project is out of my depth.
