171  porn-by-numbers...just so very proud! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by annette on: March 08, 2004 06:24:55 PM
okay, i know you might be sick of seeing it, but today it all came together and i just had to show off a little.  god, i love it when an idea works the way i want it to work...

the little colored packet has the test tubes of paint in it, actually, but i put the other test tubes in the picture, too, because, well, test tubes are cool!
thank you for indulging me--

172  Re:Sushi Grass? in What the heck can I do with THIS? by annette on: March 01, 2004 03:27:39 PM
y'all are sweet.  Smiley
that's one of my last remaining dioramas because they take up so darn much room.  it's my favorite for a variety of reasons, goofy as it is.  i'll take a straight-on picture so you can fully realize what a weirdo is in your midst.  Wink
(it's got some pompon insects, some cut-out painted photos, the afore-mentioned grass+ crimped and then shredded green paper for more grass, stickers and a whole lot of other crazy stuff.  it's called "somebody saw...what happened in the garden".)

this is even a worse picture, for some reason, but you can see more of the little bugs.  they are starting to look rather bedraggled, i'm afraid.

it's not really a use all on its own, but i've used it as background grass in dioramas...

actually, this is grass i made myself, but i hunted around and this is the only picture i could find.  it's close enough.  Wink

174  Re:Sun print paper in Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions by annette on: February 25, 2004 09:37:45 PM
cyanotype chemistry is not VERY expensive and with that you get an actual cyan print...i'm not sure if this is what you're after, but it is very cool...and permanent once it's rinsed and set.  you can print "negatives" on transparency sheets from the computer, too, though i've always used sheet film...
i have a great one of my gal anubis at school, i'll send it tomorrow...

that's my sweetie!

176  my filmstrip lampshade in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by annette on: February 21, 2004 03:08:18 PM
i'm in love with my lampshade (even though it's a fairly ugly lamp), but it was a pain in the ass because i started in on it before i had fully thought it out.  i should have bought a plain tube frame and just applied the filmstrips to it, but i instead sewed all the filmstrips together and then realized that they wouldn't happily make a cone shape, so them i had to figure out how to make the shade from scratch, more or less.
old educational filmstrips are so cool.  i've also made slides out of them and done a ton of bitchin' polaroid slide transfers with them, including an entire series devoted to carl sagan's cosmos on filmstrip.  Smiley

177  Re:more porn-by-numbers...this time, t-shirts! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by annette on: February 16, 2004 02:37:30 AM
i took the shirts to my local tonight and left the gray one with my bartender friend, patrick.  he didn't mind the crinkly edges and modeled it, on the spot!

the iron on stuff is just standard office depot brand dark fabrinc iron-on transfer stuff, but the porn-by-number process is my own little secret.
Wink  (can you guess that i just closed the bar and it's almost 3am?)
