i decided that i'm going to do my part to keep the post office in business this year, and spent the weekend obsessively making 18 postcards for various friends out and about in the world. i chose the project on a whim and then got a little...well, i already used the word "obsessively", so you get the picture. every card was unique, but they fell into a couple themes, mostly vintage fashion, animals, insects and then some stamps and blocks i'd carved. here are a couple examples. i uploaded all the scans to my craftster gallery if you want to see any of the others...i'm hoping to keep the project up, though i don't intend to make 18 in a go every month! here are some pics of a couple more...i hated to let them go in the mailbox today!
bat by drunkenlibraria, on Flickr i made a few bats for halloween--i crocheted them in three pieces, two wings and a body, and then sewed them together and glued on glow-in-the-dark googly eyes. this big boy is two strands of black yarn with a P hook, i think it was, and the little guys are one strand with a J hook. bats3 by drunkenlibraria, on Flickr i think they came out super cute and they didn't take long to make, once i got my wings down. i'm happy to share the wing "pattern" if anyone wants it--you can make a bat in half an hour or so, so it's great for last minute battifying.
i made these for a friend's charity ho-down...each is filled with a cup and a half of rice and beans, so in case of emergency you can open up the sewn flap and stave off hunger for a day or so. blue owl by drunkenlibraria, on Flickr and pink owl by drunkenlibraria, on Flickr each owl is made with several strands held together and is about a foot or so in diameter. the stuffing and beans-and-rice are enclosed in a fabric lining, so the inner pillow can also be removed if the outside needs to be washed. hopefully they'll make a couple buck for breast cancer research! just thought i'd share--i miss them already.
