1  Knitted Dinosaur Toy in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Lilletia on: July 17, 2014 12:30:41 AM
I got a copy of Let's Get Crafting Knitting & Crochet #62 the other week and my guy requested I make the dinosaur toy pattern.  It was quite fun to knit, even though it took me a long time Smiley

I made a few alterations to the pattern, some intentional (like not using all the spikes) and some not-so-intentional (like ending with a blue nose instead of a white one).
I'm still quite pleased with how the little guy turned out.

That cute little face, with its button eyes Smiley

I finished two more squares this weekend:

In the top left corner, you can (just about) see my needle and thread square.  The silver thread isn't photographing well for me, unfortunately, sorry.

The middle row, third square from the left is my sewing machine square, with seed beads for the dials.

3  Pair of Wee Scotty Dogs in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Lilletia on: July 12, 2014 11:02:52 AM

I made these two adorable mini stuffed Scottie Dogs as thank-you gifts

They're a scaled down version of a Scottie Dog pillow from Sew Magazine (issue 55) : www.sewmag.co.uk

The fabric is a soft black woollen knit I found in my stash.  The collars are ribbon that I used a decorative stitch to embellish Smiley
I'll be attaching them to keychains before we send them, so they can have a function, too.

Your buddha square is great, Abbeeroad Smiley
I love its colours and those lazy daisies are very nicely done.

Here's a ballet slipper and ballerina :

Wow!  So many amazing squares (and other interesting shapes) have been stitched whilst I've been away.
(About being away, sorry, combination of working on one of the bigger and more complex boxes, working on another project and a little road trip)

So here's a catchup from me, just starting the first 2x1 box:

And here's my completed dragon Smiley

6  100 plastic bags bathroom mat in CHALLENGE 100 ENTRIES by Lilletia on: July 03, 2014 09:57:46 AM

I've had a vast collection of supermarket plastic bags for a while.  They sit there in my kitchen, in a large bag.
The shame is, I always plan to use them again for grocery shopping, but never seem to have any on me when I'm at the store.  Every now and then I find some use for a few, mostly project organising or carrying something I don't want to get wet or leak, but never in any great quantity.

So I started searching online, because I thought that there must be something I can craft with them.  I found some great tutorials, from fusing them into fabric or beads, to weaving them into baskets and bags.

I decided to take 100 of my bags and weave them into a mat for the bathroom, and here's the result:

It's hard to tell how big or small it is from the photo, but I estimate it being 75cm/30inch diameter.

Hopefully, I shall never again look despairingly over at the bag of plastic bags and wonder when I am going to manage to reuse them at the store.
I can't wait to try fusing them into fabric to sew with Smiley
Maybe I should make a strong, carry-everywhere bag for my groceries to keep in my handbag.

Ludi, such a cute spider (and I don't actually like real spiders)

Abbeeroad, loving that new galaxy square Smiley

mdelilah, would love to see your inchie sampler Smiley

Here's how I'm doing :
Day 10 :
Dice (french knots) and musical note (single thread split-stitch)

Day 11 :
Really worked at it today, and got a double-threaded split-stitch working Smiley

Day 12 :
Not much done, just the beginnings of a butterfly and secured the blue threads

Starting to work with some variegated thread today, should be fun Smiley

Tricky question regarding that spiral; it'd be a shame to rip it out, but if you're not happy with it, sometimes it's the best option. Sad
I actually quite like it as a nice burst and swirl of colours myself. Smiley

I think the light color, white, cream, is lost against the background. Maybe change it to a grey?
This was my thought, that the white background isn't doing much for the light colours and possibly accentuating the black stitches a little too much.

Day 7 :
Starting the candle square.  The flame of the candle is metallic gold thread, but it isn't photographing well.

Day 8:
More of the candle background is being done. The idea of the black is to give a sort of hazily dark background for the light of the candle to cut through

Day 9:
Candle finished Smiley

I really haven't got much done recently, had lots of activities and chores taking my time away from stitching, I think.
French knot challenge is being done this morning; and then I'm having a try at the split-stitch technique.

Checking in Smiley
Haven't made a lot of progress so far this week, had a few very busy days where I didn't get even a single stitch done

Day 4:
Working on the background of the Pow square, you can see how I'm using alternative coloured cross-stitches for the background.  Most of the finished pictures of it just look like a dark blue instead of mid-blue/black mix.

Day 5:
Pow finished, working on the star with my age (27) in the middle.

Day 6:
Star finished, finished a complete square with chain-stitched heart and "J 4 A" lettering (my guy and my initials).
If I have time at the end, might give a bit more background colour to that one.

Currently working on a candle square, hoping to do a nice background effect.
Then I'll be looking at French knots as I've got just the square to show them with Smiley

I saw this on June 1st and thought what a great idea it is!  Everyone's been posting great work so far  Cheesy

So to join in, I've planned myself a thoroughly modern sampler based on my favourite things Smiley

Here's my day one progress (boring, just some squares):

And day two progress (framework done, can start the fun stuff the next day):

Day 3 (interesting stuff):

All the grid is backstitch.
The red running stitch is waiting for more to be completed in that square.
The stem stitch in the nearby square is just some of my favourite colours.
And you can see my POW square that represents comic books, and that's work-in-progress Smiley

Hope you like it
