2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / How do I make fabric placemats if,.... on: October 19, 2005 06:48:02 AM
I don't sew?  I cannot sew to save my life, but I found some really cool fabric that I want to use to make placemats as a gift (my brother & his wife just bought their first home and I know that his wife will LOVE this fabric).  Can anyone give me a simple tutorial on how to do NO-SEW placemats?  I did a search, but nothing vame up on how to do do fabric placemats w/o sewing (most were laminating things like cards, etc.)  I need to do this before THIS FRIDAY (YIKES! Shocked Shocked)  Somebody?  Anybody?  Thanks. Wink Smiley
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Bollywood/India Party ?'s on: August 09, 2005 09:36:17 AM
Ok, I am hosting an "Arabian Nights" themed party next weekend and I NEED SOME HELP FAST!!!! Initially I'd planned on having it outdoors and making like a tented-canopy w/ sarees and making a low table out of a door, w/ pillows for the seating,...BUT THEN I realized that this would not work for a couple of guests that are invited (due to outdoor heat factor).  >:(So I have now moved the party indoors! My question is this: How should I decorate the dining room to make it look BOLLYWOOD-like? Moving the formal dining room table is not an option, so what all could I do?  I plan on bringing all my Indian pillows, candles, etc. that I have & using them somehow, and I have Indian colorful platters, dishes, music, etc. that I'll be using (and of course the food will be Indian), but I feel like that is NOT ENOUGH!  I want this party to SAY BOLLYWOOD, not just, "oh, she likes Indian stuff & she just threw it together!"

I NEED YOUR HELP--PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! The party is next weekend! Shocked Shocked

Also, can anyone think of any after dinner games or Indian-esque ideas for entertainment?
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Arts and crafts occupation? on: June 20, 2005 09:41:02 AM
Not sure if this is the right forum or if it has been discussed b4. If so, I'm new,...sorry! Anyway, here goes. I work as a real estate/property mgmt. and I HATE HATE HATE my job!  It is ridiculously boring, UNFULFILLING, and the pay is really not all that (I'm the agent's assistant). Angry  I am very much into ALL THINGS ARTS & CRAFTS and I just recently discovered all of you TREMENDOUSLY talented people on this board and instantly thought, "I"m home! These are my people!" Wink I've been an artist all of my life, and after stumbling across this board, I've been inspired to look for a new artsy-craft-related occupation.  The thing is,...I don't know what?  Do most of you do this on the side, like as a hobby, or are many of you working this full-time as an occupation?  Again, sorry if this has been discussed, but I am so DESPERATE to get out of this job and go into something that I feel I was born to do.  Any ideas for a new field & one where I can actually make decent $$$ too? Huh Huh Huh Cry Cry
