[i love this shape]

i didnt use a square bottom and i put two handles. the points were kinda hard to get pointy, but worth it i think.

7  Tutorial: Jordy Bag - Square Bottomed Lined Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by thejordy on: January 10, 2004 09:25:56 AM
looots of pictures.
the purses ive been making are tiny just cause. but you can use whatever dimensions you want,

i hope these instructions are clear enough!

1) cut your fabric

2) press your strap [2 sides folded in then folded in half so there are no frayed edges] and stitch on both sides so it lays flat.

3) on your lining fabric, stitch together 3 sides, but not where the squares are cut out. make sure its inside out, good sides facing each other.

4) pinch together the corners of the fabric

5) stitch but only do this to one corner. leave the other one open so you have a hole.
[note: i also added velcro at this point to close the bag]

6) do the same with your outer fabric [if you're using interfacing, add it before you stitch.] except stitch together BOTH the corners

7) lay the strap inside the inside-out outer fabric

8 ) lay the lining inside the outer fabric, match up the tops and pin.

9) stitch all the way around the top

10) pull the entire bag inside out now through the hole you left in the corner of the lining.

11) fold the holes edges in and stitch the corner together

12) stitch all the way around the top of the bag [i do this twice for decorative purposes]

finished bag!

and this is the detailed inside.. im starting a 'company' soon and calling it 'pink olive'... that thing in there is a tag i silkscreened for my bags.

phew! thats it!

8  Re:a tiny baby purse but not for babies.. hehe in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by thejordy on: January 04, 2004 08:02:07 PM
thanks guys!

did you do a square bottom??  and where did you get your cool fabric??  oh, and what exactly is interfacing??  i'm just now making purses & it sounds like something i need to know about

yes, i used the 'motherspirit' pattern mostly to get the square bottoms. but i had to do it from memory cause
http://www.motherspirit.net/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=read_count&om=124&forum=DCForumID30&omm=16&viewmode=threaded
isnt working anymore or something. that was posted on the messenger bag thread too.
maybe i will take pictures during my next purse excursion [likely to be tomorrow, im on a kick hehe] and post instructions for these little things.

and interfacing is awesome!!!
it was reccomended to me by Debzy.
it makes the fabric stiff and keeps the shape of the purse. very good. just make sure you get the iron on stuff cause its less sewing.

those first two were done without interfacing and i made these two with it.

these things are so fun to make. and pretty quick too.

oh and i get most of my fabric from thrift stores. its waaaaaay cheaper and you can get some really neat vintagey designs.

9  a tiny baby purse but not for babies.. hehe in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by thejordy on: January 03, 2004 07:16:44 PM
its a baby purse! so tiny and it was fun to make.

im off to make more. its the first purse ive sewn with lining and it was pretty easy to make. i used the messenger bag thread and it was tonnes of help.
anyways..

these are good for sewing practice!

i just fixed up my mom's machine.. oooo one good excellent thing i will inherit.

sorry if im a jerk who started a new thread just for a baby purse. hehe

**EDIT**
i just finished my second one... and its much better than the first.

10  Re:Ideas on old sweaters wanted in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by thejordy on: December 03, 2003 09:12:05 PM
i made my friend a pillow out of an old sweater.
it turned out to be a nice birthday gift..

**edit***
if you do this make sure you make a pillow out of non-stretchy fabric first... the sweater part is actually just a cover for the pillow and one side has to be stitched closed by hand. if you didnt line the pillow, it would stretch out a lot... i made that mistake.. and its not easy to get stitches out of sweaters.. so i have a stretched out rectangle of a pillow instead of a nice square one.
