1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Neil Gaiman Puppet on: June 03, 2016 06:36:40 AM
Inspired by the Muppets, I created a puppet version of Neil Gaiman. He's the one with the black hair...

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / How Do You Store Your Yarn? on: April 28, 2016 05:41:47 AM
I'm moving into a new place this weekend, which is the perfect opportunity to re-think my yarn storage (and my fabric storage, and my tool storage, and and and- well, you get the idea! Grin). Currently, I keep my yarn in a big plastic tote box, which is a) somewhat unsightly, and b) I always have to take everything out to find what I need. And the yarn tends to unwind itself from the balls and get tangled in the process. I'm thinking about going to the dollar store and investing in lingerie washing bags to keep the balls with their mates- there's nothing worse than being 3/4s of the way through a project and not being able to find that last skein you know was there last time you looked!

I really want to get rid of the ugly plastic box. Looking at it is plain old de-inspiring. Not just uninspiring. That would sort of be a neutral outcome. I find the sight of unnecessary plastic hanging around makes me feel like i don't deserve to make nice things, if that makes sense.

Which brings me to my next idea, which was to use Craigslist to find a small dresser on the Free Stuff board. It doesn't really matter what it looks like- hey, I'm a Craftster! We can gussy up anything! There's a company called Solutions (clearly founded by someone with OCD Wink) that sells all manner of drawer dividers and that sort of stuff. If I had those, I could designate each drawer for a colour family and know at a glance what's what.

We all know the terrible secret of serious knitters- we all have a stash, and it's much bigger than we admit to. How do you store it? And do you have a way to keep track of it?
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Craft Pride Swap Gallery on: February 01, 2016 10:53:22 AM
Whoops! Almost forgot to start this thread!

Really excited to see what everyone comes up with! This swap theme is near and dear to my heart. I hope the gallery inspires other people to show their maker pride!

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / "I saw this cool thing once.." swap on: December 22, 2015 08:03:40 AM
We've all had it happen. You're out somewhere and something catches your eye, or you find a neat thing on Instagram, and you don't have the cash to buy it then. Going back later, the thing is gone. Maybe it was a t-shirt with a nifty slogan or design on it, or a necklace in a unique style.

What if we decided to make those things for each other? Not a straight up copy, but something inspired by the "one that got away?"
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Thick n Thin Single Swap? on: November 27, 2015 05:54:46 AM
This has probably been done, but I'll throw it out anyhow because I've been neglecting my spindles and my poor lonely roving. Why don't we swap a small amount of handspun yarn? I thought it would be best for it to be a single so that less-experienced spinners wouldn't be intimidated, and because I personally love the texture of thick n thin yarn when it's knitted up.

What do you think? It'll be nice to have a warm fuzzy project to look forward to after the holidays.
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Craft for My Profession on: November 19, 2015 10:35:29 AM
Medium and a small item based on your partner's profession? (Or possibly dream profession, which might be more fun, come to think of it.)

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Moving Threads? on: October 23, 2015 07:12:54 AM
I've forgotten how to move a topic, and can't seem to find instructions. I think I've tried every button, and all I seem to get is options for modifying the message. "Craft My Playlist" needs to go from Signs Ups Are Closed to Totally Finished... what am I missing?

Thanks!
10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Modified T-Shirt Swap? on: October 20, 2015 11:37:30 AM
T-shirts breed in your dresser. I'm sure of it. I took all mine out and counted them during "fall cleaning" and was shocked to discover I have over 100! (Really, bands, come up with a more original merch idea; please!)

This lead me to thinking about how many of them I don't wear because they're oversized or whatnot, and how many cool ways there are to modify them. Examples:

Doomgaze made this rockin' bodysuit,

and TheaOz made this super-cute Alabama Chanin inspired top.

I think this would be a fun project for a swap. One modified t-shirt, straight up. (Though I personally might stay away from doing things with band logos unless I'd checked with my partner to make sure they're a fan).

Whatdya think? (This could be rolled into aisy's Update My Wardrobe theme as well...)
