1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Punk Rock Swap? on: May 21, 2015 09:56:26 AM
Punk and DIY go hand in hand, so why not a punk themed swap? A couple of smalls based on bands or just reflecting the culture in general? I started writing this and remembered a song by The Wingnut Dishwasher's Union called Jesus Does the Dishes: tell me that title wouldn't be hilarious on a dishcloth! Or a hoodie with the Antiflag slogan "To Hell With Boredom!" Or a Johnny Rotten stuffie. Or a "London Calling" phone case.

Well, you get the idea.
2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Kick Spindle Construction- Advice? on: May 08, 2015 06:22:15 AM
I'm tackling the building of a kick spindle this weekend, and I was hoping someone would have words of wisdom to impart. I'm using a training wheel from a child's bike for the "kicking" part, as I don't have a lot of faith in my ability to cut a decently round circle with the limited tools available. I found a picture on Flickr something like what I have in mind:

I'm wondering about the bit on the right-hand end. It looks like there's a skateboard bearing in there to make for smooth rotation. Do you think that's really necessary, or could I get away with a half-round metal cap on the spindle itself seated in a dish washer on the stand?

Thanks for your help!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / T-shirts into yoga-type skirt. on: March 17, 2014 05:44:13 PM
A further project ransacking that t-shirt collection (they say that every t-shirt you buy from an independent band buys them 25 miles worth of gas for the tour van. I say it's a small price to keep good music alive!). I took 2 skirts and some ridiculous sparkly ice-dancing costume fabric to make this super comfy skirt. It looks much better on, but I have no one to take photos.

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Pantera t-shirt into slightly girlier Pantera top on: March 17, 2014 05:27:11 PM
Fitted top made from recycled Pantera shirt. I own way too many stupid band shirts, and I've been experimenting with ways to make them less bland.

and the back...
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Let's Go Dancing - the super sexy date night top on: March 04, 2014 06:43:30 PM
Made without a pattern... it's got an easy to do up yourself clip closure on the back, a built-in bra to avoid the darn thing showing at an unfortunate moment, and is all drapey and flowy so as to move nicely with the body.

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Handcuffs Make Everything Better on: February 27, 2014 09:51:38 PM
Found an old extra extra large Dimebag Darrell tribute shirt at my local thrift store. It was going to be jammies until we stopped at the Dollarama, where I found party supplies. Two pair of plastic handcuffs for a buck! Sold! The cuffs are detachable so they don't go through the wash. This project is surprisingly comfortable to wear, though it does require a certain frame of mind.
7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Uneven, Over-Twisted Single on: February 25, 2014 07:49:54 PM
100% merino, hand-dyed (admittedly not by me- I received the roving as a gift.). I intentionally made it thick and thin with extra curly bits because I wanted to get a nobby effect when it was knitted up after. I'm in that process right now, and I can tell you the extra twist was a mistake! Anyways, here's my slightly blurry first picture post to Craftster! (I've just realized that this photo is from before I set it. The yarn isn't actually this curly or this fuzzy.)
