So I've never had to sew any "formal" costumes until now, so I'm not experienced with choosing the right fabric for these projects.
What I'm doing is cross-gendering Disney princesses. Right now, I'm looking at making a male Anna (from Frozen) costume and a male Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) costume. I'm having trouble deciding on appropriate fabrics.
Here's the art I'm referencing for Aurora (the blue outfit): http://25.media.tumblr.com/44ed8f0725d32955aff40425403421c5/tumblr_mttmmulhD71rlt4lao1_r1_1280.jpg
And this one for Anna (ginger in the pink cape): http://25.media.tumblr.com/47bb4ca334ef369b19fa9c0c9cca73fa/tumblr_mzeyw2Im0K1rlt4lao1_r1_1280.jpg
I assume these would essentially be made from the same fabrics as their original dresses (or at least the tunics would be the same as the original bodices?). But I'm not even sure what the best fabric for that would be.
Any suggestions? It's mainly the tunics that I'm worried about honestly. Though I would like additional suggestions on Aurora's cape as well as the flanges of the doublet/tunic (pictured as white. Just use the same kind of fabric as the piece itself, but in white?)
Also, I always tend to either buy trousers or make my own using twill. If anyone knows of fabric that would work even better than twill, I'm all ears.
Sorry I sound like such a beginner! I like to be thorough. And thanks for reading!
