1  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Goofy owl urn/cookie jar on: October 14, 2010 04:44:40 PM
I'm taking a ceramics class this semester.  For our second project, we had to make a funerary urn or reliquary box with a lid and plinth.  Originally, my urn was going to be kind of like a canopic jar.  I was doodling different ideas for the lid and it ended up looking kind of like an owl.  I decided to go with it and made the whole dang thing into an owl.  I sculpted 3 feather shapes from polymer clay and made mold from them.  I used the molds to make roughly a bajillion feathers that I stuck on the coil-built form.

The picture kinda sucks.  Oh, well.

I'll take more pictures one it is bisqued.  Not sure how I'm going to glaze it.  Once it is done, though, I'm totally going to use it as a cookie jar, seeing as I don't plan on dying anytime soon.

Oh, there is a plinth that sort of goes with it, but it is trapped in the kiln room.  I'll take pictures once I get it back.

3  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Vote for your favorte entry into the 2nd ever Polymer Clay Challenge! on: July 02, 2010 08:45:48 AM
So, I'm a turd and left out one entry in the previous poll.  That poll is no more, so if you have already voted, you will have to do so again.  The poll is open for 7 days, starting today.

I will be without internet access for the weekend (rustic camping!), so if you need to talk to me, I won't be able to reply until Monday at the earliest.  Have a good weekend, and Happy Independence Day to my fellow residents of the USofA! Cheesy

Ladies and gents, are you interested in another challenge?  It would basically be set up the same way as the last one.  I am going to be looking for a prize donor, and I may throw in something as well.

The second place theme last time we voted was "Mythical Creatures".  Do you want to go with that or try something else?  Let me know. Smiley

9  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Discussion and Questions / Fictional Characters Challenge on: March 02, 2009 01:03:58 PM
Inspired By Fictional Characters Challenge

Winner Announced April 11th

For this challenge, take your favorite fictional character and craft a piece that is inspired by it.  Think about your favorite books, movies, TV shows, whatever.  Your project can be jewelry, functional, a decorative knick-knack, anything you want.  Go crazy!

Some people have expressed concern regarding copyright laws.  We can not be responsible for legal action that could potentially come your way.  Just use common sense and don't steal others' ideas.  That's not only illegal, it is not the Craftsterly thing to do.  Craft at your own risk. Wink

The Specifics:

Post your craft between when the board gets set up (probably in the next few days, depending on when those with the powers can get around to it) and April 1st, no later.
Voting will take place April 2nd through 10th

At some point on April 11th, the winner will be announced

Each participant can enter ONE project.

You may use polymer clay, air dry clay, ceramic, or precious metal clay.  At least 75% of your piece must be made of one or more of these materials.
