Heya, I just learned about a new craft group starting in Bristol called the Crafty Ladies Brigade http://craftyladiesbrigade.blogspot.com/ , and I thought any craftsters in Bristol might be interested, it looks good, you will need to e-mail the address on the page to get an invite. I made i little craft felt cuff before and it just got wet a couple of times and pilled right up and went horrible, but then other (probably better quality!) craft felt has fared fine, so I would definately second the test first suggestion

I'm not sure if you can heat plastic canvas to make it curved, but a lady in my sewing class brought in some things she made and she has made the plastic canvas appear to curve without heat, by joining diamonds of plastic canvas together.  Hopefully that'll inspire you
