Those are super cute! And I love the Pearl Buttons! I may have to give them a try...

Hey harbourofhate,

I'm not sure if you wanted a pattern but I searched for one and McCall 5271 is very similar to the top, well except for the fact that it's not a halter.

It actually looks like the front of the halter may be made of two rectangles (or a trapezoidal shape) that are gathered at the back of the neck. But it is definitely self-faced. That's really all that I can think of. Hope this helps and good luck!

You dress is adorable and very fall appropriate! It's not too cold weather looking because you chose two great colors and kept with a summery type dress in mind. I bet you'll get a lot of wear out of it because it's very versatile. And congrats on making your first design!
14  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / Re: Swing Jacket Patterns??? on: September 03, 2007 12:27:54 PM
Hey Ravenhaired,

These swing jackets are so very cute as well as so very popular right now. I absolutely adore the one you have posted a pic of!

I would definitely take unlevkirby's advice as I have done this and am so happy with the results. I am currently taking advanced patternmaking at my local community college. And it's true, you CAN design and make whatever you want!

But if you don't have the time to do that, or just don't want to I might suggest McCall Pattern 5479, 5480. They aren't exactly copies, but if you can figure out how to modify them you'll get what you want. Also they are swing jackets nonetheless, so if you don't feel like doing the mods, you could definitely still have a cute swing jacket. I also just received the current issue of Burda Easy Fashion and they have a similar jacket pattern in the magazine.

It's in German, but if you know how to sew pretty well, I'm sure you could figure out how to put it together yourself. I bought my subscription from GLPnews, but you may be able to find the magazine on eBay.

Hope you find what you are looking for!
15  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Another Polka Dotty Dress! on: July 24, 2007 03:40:14 PM
Hey Everyone,

So I haven't been doing much of sewing... or knitting, or crafting of any sort lately. (I had a very condensed anatomy class on top of work.) But I finally got around to using some polyester knit Polka Dot fabric that I bought from Gorgeous Fabrics.

I made McCall's 5425.

Back View:

It was actually a very easy pattern, a beginner could easily make this in a short period of time.

Enjoy! Questions, comments, concerns? Let me know and have a wonderful day!
16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Yet Another Simplicity BBW 4111 Top... Just for Summer! on: May 02, 2007 06:44:28 PM
Hi Everyone!

I made another top... Finally got my sewing mojo back!

It's Simplicity 4111. I made everything pretty much the same; well except for the short sleeves, I can't imagine wearing long sleeves in the Southern California summer!

I made it out of a cotton Swiss Dot I found at JoAnn's.

I really liked this pattern. VERY quick and easy to make, which means no stressing for me!

Hope you likey! Thanks!

Sweetpadee
17  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / New Grey Top, Just In Time for... Summer? on: April 12, 2007 03:12:21 PM
Hi All!

Here's my new top. Made from Simplicity 3882, view B. I changed the construction up a bit and came to terms with my fear of sewing knits. It is a bit drab for summer, but I plan on making a yellow pique bow belt to make it a bit more summery.

Inside:

Hope you like! Comments, criticisms and questions always welcome!

virginiawoolf,

You did a great job on the skirt and shirt. I love the material for both of them. Are those mushrooms on the skirt?

19  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Quilt-a-long! on: April 08, 2007 06:21:36 PM
Well I think I will join! I started this quilt 4 years ago and kinda just forgot about it.

It will be my first quilt, but I bought this wonderful book that I can refer to if I have any problems. I think it's called Your First Quilt Book.

It's a pretty basic quilt, just a bunch of squares! If I get this one done I have two other quilt kits and would like to make a grey and yellow quilt.

We'll see... Shocked

Oh yes... and here is a picture of what I drew up 4 years ago and some of my squares pieced together.

Fishinabowl,

The slip dress is New Look 6040. It is out of print, but I'm pretty sure that you could find a similar one in the newer pattern catalogs. It is a pretty basic pattern.
