11  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Southern Hospitality on: August 26, 2005 09:46:31 AM
Once again, I need a little help. I'm going on a "meet the parents weekend" to TN, and I'm from "up north" and I have no idea what to bring his parents! We're staying with them for three days and I feel it nessary to bring a very nice hostess gift. I've found that his southern family is drastically different than my northern family, so I have no idea what to get them. If it were anywhere up here, you would bring the traditional wine/candy/flowers, but that hardly seems appropriate when they're paying for everything!
A little southern perspective would help greatly, as I don't want to offend them upon our first meeting!
Thank you so much! You guys save my butt again and again.  Grin
12  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / House/Apartment Warming Gift on: August 19, 2005 07:03:55 PM
Hey everyone! I really need a hand. I need a house/apartment warming gift for my boy.
He's a band director in Tennessee. I don't get to see him that often since I'm going to school in Michigan, but he's flying me out for Labor Day.
I'd love to bring him something to make the apartment look a little less "a 23 year old man live here with his dog"
It should be functional/pratical as well as fun, any ideas?
Oh, and it also needs to fly well!
Thanks!
13  UNITED STATES / New Mexico / National Poetry Slam in ABQ on: July 10, 2005 01:32:11 PM
So ABQ is hosting the National Poetry Slam this year. It's a great event, if you're in the area from August 10 -13th you should consider going.
I"m trying to pack and create a few new clothing pieces to take with me. I was wondering what kind of things people wear down there (I'm from Michigan)? What would be appropriate to wear to the venues? (see the venues at www.nps2005.org). Thanks for your help! I can't wait to see New Mexico, I hear it's amazing!
14  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Super swirly Old Navy Skirt? on: June 10, 2005 06:51:07 AM
I have fallen in love with the super full pesant skirts feature on one of the old navy commercials. I understand the pesant skirt concept, but how do I make the top fitted like that and the bottom so full and swirly (me loves swirly!)?
They're not pictured on the website though, hmmm, weird. Anyway, any suggestions?
15  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Four week wedding gift?! on: May 18, 2005 06:55:41 PM
My friend and mentor is getting married on the 17th of June. She has played a HUGE role in my life for the last four years and I want to get her and her fiance' something really great, but I also am constrained by graduation and the openhouse and a four week time limit. Any suggestions? I really wanted to do a quilt, but I dont' think I have the time (or money currently) to do it justice. Any other ideas? Thanks!
16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / One big black tee ---> little off the sholder top on: March 21, 2005 04:56:51 PM
I found this black shirt lurking around my room the other day. I think I bought it to be screen printed originally. I decided that something must be done with it.  Four cuts, 6 seams and 4 darts later I give you the uber cute off the sholder top!

You can't really see the darts all that well, but they are there, believe me!
17  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / A night at the show on: March 21, 2005 09:32:30 AM
I'm going to see a play at the local Civic theater the second weekend in April. Everyone usually dresses to the nines.
I'm going to watch a friend in the show that I'm currently trying to hook up wtih.
The problem is... I dont' have anything to wear! I am a loyal fan of simple and black. It needs to be appropriate to wear amoungst the old ladies in the audience, but also able to WOW him when I go back stage after the show.
I am an advanced seemstress. I just need some ideas on something quick and preferably easy that would work.
I want it to be springy, yet appropriate for night time wear. Preferably a dress or skirt, something feminine.
PLEEEAAASSEEE help me.
Even if you post pics, I can work from that!
Thanks!
18  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Opening Night! on: March 19, 2005 02:06:07 PM
There's this guy that I'm trying to get together with, he likes me, I like him, you know the deal, we're just too stupid to finally go out on a date.
Well, said guy, is in a big play at our local Civic Theater. They're doing "Elizabeth Rex" which is about Queen Elisabeth (in the Tudor Court).
I'm going to see it opening night and want to send something back to his dressing room after teh show. I have female friends that I always send flowers after shows, but that's pretty feminine. I need something a little more manly, something that says "I want you" and makes him think of me Wink
I can do just about anything, knit, crochet, sew, etc etc etc.
ALL suggestions are desperatly needed. Please help. The show opens April 8th.
Thanks so much!
19  UNITED STATES / Michigan / Spartans anyone? (or Lansing or E. Lansing) on: February 08, 2005 05:12:06 PM
Hi everyone!
I'm preparing to become a Spartan in the fall. I can find my way around town pretty well. However, I would love it if anyone could tell me about all of the great stores, yarn shops, book stores and eateries in town. OR if you are a current Spartan, it would be great to talk!
I'm looking so forward to moving out of my town of 600 and to E. Lansing. Hopefully I can alliance myself with some crafty people early on!
Thanks! Love you all dearly!
