2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: Valentine's day melted bead and waxpaper suncatchers! on: January 21, 2014 08:48:21 AM
What an interesting idea.  What kind of beads, and how did you melt them?

I used a variety of different sized plastic beads, but most people only use pony beads. Some of my beads were a lot smaller.

I used a method similar to this one, except I used regular sewing thread for a couple of the hearts, and thin jewelry wire for a couple, and melted them in the toaster oven. Because my beads were smaller, I also had to smoosh some of the beads together with the flat end of a spoon while they were cooling to get them to touch each other and stick. It was still easy, though. Smiley

ETA:
Oops! Meant to post this on the other board. Sorry!

This isn't really completely finished, but it's never really finished. Smiley It's an ongoing project with a blacklight, poster boards, fine-tipped sharpie, and highlighter markers. Some of the stuff I draw and then let the kids color it in with highlighters, sort of like a DIY blacklight coloring book. Smiley

I'm really happy with this flower in particular.

This is just made from melted beads:

These are the waxpaper/crayon heart suncatchers. The one in the middle on the bottom is "mosaic'ed" from leftover scraps, clear tape, and "framed" with a cut out paper plate. lol.
