I'm trying to solder those damn microscope slide things and here is my issue:
I have a 40watt iron. With both the chisel tip and the pointed tip, the tips either crack or wear down after I use them for awhile (not long, tho). When I talked to the guys at the electronics store, they thought that was odd and was convinced it was because I was touching the solder to the iron. (They said for motherboards you only heat up the area, then you place the solder which should melt)
Help me. I'm sick of this. It's freaking hard to get the solder smooth and I'm having a hard time with the whole tip thing.
What sort of iron do you all use? Do you touch the solder to the tip of the iron? Has your tips ever cracked?
For some reason, this whole project has become more expensive and more frustrating than I thought possible.
