1  Re: Old silk tree into modern art in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by coachwriter on: September 08, 2007 02:58:25 PM
And do you have a more recent photo of the tree itself? I'd love to see it in all it's glory ^^

Believe it or not, it's still not quite done, but I just took this photo:

Should have done that in the first place, LOL!

There are STILL places I have not covered so it looks like one more winter of 4 p.m. darkness will be spent with sticky fingers.

Glad you all like it.

Warmly,

Lynn

2  Old silk tree into modern art in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by coachwriter on: September 08, 2007 09:46:08 AM
I'd been lugging this silk tree around from house to house for more years than some of you have been alive. Finally decided I couldn't stand it anymore and that I would have nothing to lose if I stripped off all the leaves and replaced them with paper which is what I did.

Actually, this photo was taken before I totally finished. It's now THICK with leaves. It took me two winters of work though. I made a template, then used magazine pages because they are thin and stick together. I cut two leaves, put glue on them, put one on top and one on bottom of each little "branch" where a silk leaf had been.

Here's a closer look at the leaves:

I started out using photos, but it was too hard to get them to stick. I still lose a few leaves, just like real trees in the fall!

But from something that everyone ignored, this has turned into an art and conversation piece.

Enjoy!

Warmly,

Lynn
