1  CANADA / Ontario / I live in Kitchener/Waterloo - want to know what other citities have to offer on: July 02, 2007 09:50:06 AM

I live in K/W and I've been making all my own clothing lately. I'm looking for stores that have *garment* fabric, not just quilting cottons.

I am willing to travel to Cambridge, Guelph or Hamilton. I've heard there are fabric mills in Cambridge, but I'm not sure where. I've also heard of a whole street in Hamilton that is nothing but awesome fabric stores.

Does anyone know anymore about this? Could anyone provide directions to the places in Hamilton or Cambridge.
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / How do I draft armholes? on: June 10, 2005 09:00:07 PM
Okay, here's the thing. I am pretty darn good at drafting most aspects of pattern. I can work out the math for almost everything else,  but I can't seem to get armholes right.

Is there some sort of magical formula that will allow me to draft armholes for sewing patterns, without gapping funny at my chest, or being all wonky-like?

I don't understand how to get the curve right. I've seen these ruler type things that are supposed to be a combination french curve/hip curve/ straight ruler, but I have no idea how do use them. The instructions on the back make no sense to me.

Also, once I have the armholes drafted, how do I make sleeve caps that will fit into them?

Along the same vein, how would I draft princess seams?

Can anyone help?
