1  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Thanksgiving recipes kids can make? on: November 19, 2011 09:01:18 PM
Maybe cream pies made with pudding and pre made mini graham cracker crusts.
2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Pickled eggs! on: October 29, 2011 12:42:17 AM
I make pickled eggs using pickled beets and a jar of the little yellow hot peppers, including the juice of both.  The eggs come out bright purple.
3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Santa Maria Style Tri-Tip on: September 04, 2010 07:18:50 AM
I live near Santa Maria, and it's funny to think that other people even know what tri tip is.  Pretty much every barbeque around here involves tri tip.  You can get it whole or cut up into steaks.  It does come out better cooked whole, though.
4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: homemade marzipan?? on: August 19, 2010 09:22:57 AM
I have a friend whose family used to make marzipan every year for Christmas.  They didn't make it completely from scratch, but would buy plain almond paste and add stuff to it.  I think the recipe was on the package.  It seemed pretty simple, and was like playing with playdough.  You can make fruits if you are ambitious, using food coloring to tint the dough.  My friends mother would tint the dough different colors and roll them out separately.  Then she would layer the colors and cut them into shapes.  Yum, now I want to go and try it myself.

Pickled eggs will keep longer than regular boiled eggs.  Layer peeled hard boiled eggs in a large jar or container with pickled beets, along with their juice and those little yellow hot peppers that come in a jar, also with their juice.  Let them set a couple of days before eating.  They will turn a bright purpley-pink and just a little spicy.  Just don't attempt to make devilled eggs out of them.  We tried and it was horrible.

i saw a bizzar foods episode where they had garlic ice cream i dont remember where it was, but i want some soooo bad!
They have garlic ice cream in Gilroy, CA aka the garlic capitol.  I tried some once, but I wasn't a fan of it.  It was vanilla ice cream and at first you taste the vanilla, but then the garlic sneaks up on you. Pow!
7  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Baked Potato bar .... what is your fav potato topping?? on: September 29, 2009 11:39:31 PM
I like baked beans with baked potatoes.  The kind that are a little sweet.  It would go well with the ham or bacon.
8  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Chocolate Hazelnut Thins - a.k.a. Nutella Cookies on: September 06, 2009 07:51:41 PM
I made these tonight and they are yummy.  You do have to follow directions.  The first batch I overbaked a little.  They're still good but crisp.  The next batch I took out at the right time, but I tried to take them off the cookie sheet immediately instead of following the directions to let them set.  So a couple of the cookies fell apart, but they still taste good. (The ugly ones are mine!)  After that I followed directions and they were perfect.
9  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Why is my corn so chewy? on: August 24, 2009 09:41:44 AM
It could possibly be the type of corn.  Last year my son planted corn for the first time, but he planted an heirloom variety which was starchier than the crisp white corn I buy at the store.
10  COOKING / Dessert / Re: cupcake flavours help :D on: August 04, 2009 07:23:46 PM
Chocolate Cherry cupcakes!  Basically chocolate cake mix with cherry pie filling and almond extract mixed in.

Speaking of mixing coffee with chocolate cake mix, I've never tried it but I always use coffee for the liquid when making chocolate frosting.  I doesn't give it a coffee flavor, it just makes it better somehow.
