11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / book altering / altered art craftalong? on: April 14, 2006 06:10:29 PM
okay. so i've got this new obsession with altering books and i thought it'd be cool if we did a craftalong and helped each other along the way..
i know it's not a common artform, so if any of you don't actually know what it is, here is the definition of an altered book (given by the ISABA - international society of altered book artists):

"It is any book, old or new that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art. They can be ... rebound, painted, cut, burned, folded, added to, collaged in, gold-leafed, rubber stamped, drilled or otherwise adorned ...and yes! it is legal!"

and here are some altered books done by people on craftster:

12  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / ballerina altered book .:*.. +:.*.. . . {img heavy} on: April 12, 2006 01:25:12 AM
this is my first ever altered book  Smiley ... it's not exactly finished, but it's for a school art project, and we don't have that many art lessons (cos maths is so much more important.. *rolls eyes*) ... so it's taking ages, and i didn't want to wait that long to post it..  Wink
so anyways, we had to appropriate a famous artist.. i was inspired by degas' ballerinas and the renoir's beautiful paintings of children..

{ sorry the pics are so huge! }

the book was originally "brown ears at sea", a book i read when i was little, about a little toy rabbit that gets lost at the beach.. i figured no one would miss it ..  Wink

first page: has a pocket, with an altered playing card inside it...

second page: i used tulle and ribbon for her dress and gave her a pearl necklace

pages three and four: lots of swirly golden paint and beads+buttons... the fourth page has lyrics from a song by something corporate:
"reasons like seasons they constantly change and the seasons of last year like reasons have floated away

pages five and six:

pages seven and eight:

13  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / a question for anyone in AUSTRALIA ~! on: April 10, 2006 10:52:00 PM
okay so here's the problem: i've made books before, but they've all been little ones and i just used regular A4 printer paper for the pages inside.... but now i want to make biiig A4 sized art journals cos the only nice ones i've found are waaaaaay overpriced.. and i was just wondering, where could i buy nice, big, good quality paper ?? ..like watercolour paper or something thick so my pens won't leak through...

thankS everyone  Smiley

19  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / cute little denim elephant with button eyes! on: November 22, 2005 01:06:03 AM
we're doing secret santa at school and i got katie.. who loves elephants! at first i thought about buying her one but then i realised, why buy her another one when she already has [literally] 40 storebought ones...... so of course, i did it the craftster way and made it! and well i thought i might as well make it completely unique.. and out of denim! the pics make it look gray but it's actually sorta more pale blue. i got lazy at the end so the eyes and ears are glued on with fabric glue. hehe.

not exactly his best side. makes him look sorta wonky, as homemade creations sometimes are.

hehe he can't stand well, but he's learning. *crosses fingers* i just hope she likes it..
