1  Re: Fabric-covered coffee table? in Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions by efemmera on: September 21, 2005 08:35:44 AM
As far as a jigsaw being unweildly, it's really not. Circular saws are MUCH harder to manage and they don't do well on curves, which would render one useless for your project.

A jigsaw looks rather like this:

They sell for anywhere from US $150 on up new, but you could buy a used one or borrow one. Even if you have zero power tool skills, a jigsaw is very manageable.

2  Re: Back To School Supplies Craftalong in Craftalongs by efemmera on: August 15, 2005 06:29:06 PM
I'm not crafting along, technically, as I only had a week in the states before school starts...tomorrow. Anyway, I handbound my English notebook. The cover is black craft paper with silver scrapbook paper backing a photo I took in Paris.

The cover-

Detail shot-

A view of the binding-

The inside cover and a view of the lines- (I drew lines onto an 11x17 sheet and photocopied it...)

A view of the inside pages-

The book has 120-something pages with 1/2 inch lines. It took about 4 hours, start to finish. School starts tomorrow. I should be finishing my shirt to wear, but I might go to bed. Anyway, have fun!

3  T-shirt recons (image heavy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by efemmera on: July 20, 2005 06:58:40 PM
Two reconned shirts.

Urban Assault shirt- I got this for free and bought the lace for about 4 bucks, so all it all, my happy 4 dollar shirt. Smiley

The "Law's Cool" shirt- my parents got this at my aunt's law school graduation like ten-fifteen years ago. It was all shredded and stained, a men's XL. It's now pretty cute, I'm proud of it. The perk here is that the justices keep me just covered enough that I don't have to wear a bra with it! *happy dance*

Decorating the bed:

The side lacing: (Yes, I'm wearing rainbow panties. I'm sorry I've just subjected you to that image. I was too lazy to put on pants.)

The neckline: (and my unfortunate tan lines...)

Close-up of the image. (Surpreme Court justices in sunglasses...most excellent, really...)

4  T-shirt Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by efemmera on: July 20, 2005 06:50:40 PM
This was made from two old t-shirts. Normally, I hate dresses, but this is like wearing a comfy old t-shirt. Yay!

The bed wearing it.

Here are two skirts I've made, reconned from pillowcases. The waistbands are made from old T-shirts.

6  A monster ate my laptop! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by efemmera on: July 19, 2005 07:49:57 PM
I was at the fabric store the other day when I saw this fabric. Electric blue and violent green fake fur appeals to me far more than those black neoprene laptop cases, thus, my laptop got a new home. This is my first post with images, so yell at me if they don't work...

His little monster face:

The bright green lining:

My laptop is very happy with her new home. My carpet is covered in blue-green fuzzies, which my sewing machine HATED. Hence the fur on the outside was hand-sewn. (I haven't hand-sewn anything since I was about seven...)
