I made this shrine for jennieingram
during the Shrine Swap
. I was inspired by a pin of jennie's, the wondrous Smiling Moons of Knickertwist
.~*We ran as if to meet the moon.*~
This Moon Shrine is to celebrate the simple wonders around us, such as the glorious moon. I created this with a variety of items I reused...a repurposed frame, twigs scavenged from my yard, a bit of ivy my mom was throwing out, and a sad bit of leftover clay I found in my art closet....in fact, I bought nothing to create this shrine....which was pretty amazing....I wonder what else I can find?

I made this small shrine for jennieingram
during the Shrine Swap
. It was a crafty adventure that I just adored!
And this was my warmup shrine, a little one before I dove into bigger ones.~*For in dreams, we enter a world that is entirely our own.*~
This Dream Shrine is to celebrate one's imagination and reminds one to dream. Some of the components are: paper mache birdhouse (with front cut open
), small white ceramic deer which I painted (I found it in my stash...think it was for Xmas because I found tiny Santas and Mrs. Clauses in the mix
), metal wings I received in past swap, paint, crackle medium, small bird nest (from craft store, not my back yard
), feathers, E6000 glue (my fave
) and a bit of glitter (dreams are sparkly, right?
)side details...pic by jennie...thank you jennie, my side pic was bleh
|| CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Craftster's 10th Anniversary Cross Category Challenge! Crochet Winner Announced!
on: June 25, 2013 09:47:20 AM
Craftster's 10th Anniversary Cross-Category Challenge
Craftster is turning 10!! That's right, August marks 10 years of running with scissors all over the internet! In honor of this momentous time, we're hosting a cross-category challenge! Every category will have the same challenge with the same entry times. The 10 category winners with the most votes will be put head-to-head-to-head-to... you get it.... for a GRAND PRIZE PACKAGE!!!
The theme for this challenge is "What Craftster means to me."
Now, don't be scared of this theme! Craftster is made by YOU, Craftster can mean different things to different people so whatever it means to you, that's great!! Still unsure it's as easy as I say? Here's some examples that are just the tip of the iceberg!
- "To me, Craftster means trying new things! Here's a project featuring a technique I've never tried before!"
- "To me, Craftster means tutorials! Here's a project I made from a tutorial I found on the boards."
- "To me, Craftster means swapping! Here's a project I'm sending in a swap."
- "To me, Craftster means a community where I can show off my geekiness! Here's a project that relates to this thing I'm interested in!"
See? Not so bad, eh? Seriously, as long as you can describe why you feel your project reflects something Craftster represents to you, then you're good!Rules and Suggestions:
- You may enter in as many categories as you like, but you may only enter a project once. So if you wanted to enter in three categories, you would need to have made three projects!
- Your project must have been made between June 24th and the time of posting. Your entry should not have been posted on Craftster previously (ie not something you made and posted years ago!)
- If using a pattern or tutorial, please let us know.
- You can begin crafting at any time but remember to post your thread in this board from August 7th through August 13th at 11:59:59 PDT. Voting for each category will be open August 14th to August 21st.
- Although there will be 20 category winners, only the 10 winners with the most votes will go on to a grand prize round! Voting for this will be August 23rd to August 30th, with the grand prize winner being formally announced September 3rd!
The winner in each category will receive a Craftster pin, and a Craftster USB card. Plus!
The winner in the Crochet Category will also receive everything needed to make a lovely cowl courtesy of Red Heart
!! That includes the Cowl a la Mode pattern, 2 skeins of Boutique Changes yarn in Aquamarine
, and a 5mm Susan Bates Bamboo Handle Crochet Hook

Harry Potter Craftalong ~Summer Semester 2013~~*HPC PROJECTS*~
~*Began June 1, 2013*~
~*Ended August 31, 2013*~
Summer Semester lasted 92 days
38 Students were enrolled at Hogwarts
775 Projects were Posted!!
That is an amazing average of around
8 projects a day and 20 projects per student! Welcome to Hogwarts!
The Harry Potter Craftalong (HPC) is not your typical craftalong; we are gathered here to celebrate our love of crafting and the Wonderful World of Harry Potter. In the HPC you will be completing classes and challenges with your skills in crafty magic. These classes and challenges all have HP centered themes, but your crafts do not have to be “Harry Potter." Your mission, as a student at Hogwarts, is to complete at least one class or challenge during this semester. You may join any time during the semester. I hope you join us; the HPC is a great way to stretch your crafty muscles, meet HP crafters, and have fun!
---The HPC is here to help us each finish projects and to explore new challenges as we better our crafting skills. Prompts and guidelines are there to help stimulate creativity and growth; the size and complexity of the project submitted should reflect a level of personal growth and challenge over the time you spend in the HPC.
---Projects for the HPC should represent your best crafty skills. Take pride in your work. Classes and challenges should take a minimum of 30 minutes to make.
---A project can only be submitted for one class/challenge (the same project cannot be entered in multiple categories) unless noted in prompt (it will be CLEARLY noted if allowed).
---Projects must be turned in within the timeframe designated by the type of assignment or challenge.
---For a project to be counted, it must have a picture or picture link included. If your item is a private piece, you may submit a picture link to one of the headmistresses.
---There is SO MUCH to do in the HPC. Do not feel like you have to craft everything. Think of the HPC as a "Choose Your Own Adventure". Craft what inspires you, but don't try to do everything and get burned out. Keep in mind the wise words of Deputy Headmistress jennieingram, "It does not do to dwell on lists and forget to craft." ~*HOW TO TURN IN A PROJECT*~ For each assignment/challenge, use this header:
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.)
Feel free to also include your house and any storycrafting you've created for your project.
---You can add more than one project to your post, but a header must be used for each project.~*HPC FAQs*~
---How long is a semester?
Semesters are as follows: FALL-September, October, November; WINTER- December, January, February; SPRING-March, April, May; SUMMER-June, July, August
---When can I join?
You can join anytime in the semester.
---Do I have to sign-up to join this craftalong?
No, all you have to do is post in the thread a hi or completed project post.
---How do I complete a semester/earn my year?
To complete a semester/year, you only have to complete one class or challenge during the semester.
---What timezone do we use?
We use Headmistress pinkleo's Central Timezone (Texas time).
---Do you sort me?
NO, you will decide which house you belong to, but you can only choose one.
---I have a problem or question; who can I ask?
You can send a Personal Message (PM) to Headmistress pinkleo. You can also ask specific questions to HPC staff. And you can post your question in the thread; our students are very helpful!
---Can I turn in something I did earlier?
With a very few exceptions the answer is NO! You must complete your project during the current semester. Exceptions are Detention and OWLs; look for details about these projects in their information posts.
---Are we swapping?
No, this is not an organized swap. We are just encouraging crafting with a HP twist. But if you enjoy swapping, keep an eye out for HP themed swap info in our thread.
---Do I have to craft all the classes and challenges?
NO, you pick what you inspires you. There is tons to choose from so choose your own HP Craft Adventure through the castle.
---What kind of projects are allowed for classes/challenges?
If Craftster has a category for it, then it is a viable HPC project. And since Craftster has a board for almost everything, your choices are vast.
---Does my craft project have to be Harry Potter themed?
NO, if your item fulfills the class/challenge prompt, then it can be posted in the HPC. Above all, we are here to encourage crafting.
---What is the Magic Quill?
Ah, you must have heard about that from your headmistress. She is referring to updating the completed project list by using the tinyurl website.~*House Points*~
~*Your triumphs will earn you points*~
15 points for a Class Assignment & Challenge*
100 points for OWLs
150 points for NEWTs
10 points extra for SPEW aka Charity Items
House Points Guidelines
--- *You cannot double dip for Class & Challenge points. For example, if you turn-in a project for Herbology & Geminio, then you would get 2 badges but only 15 points for the project.
---You cannot get credit for a class or challenge twice. For example, if you turn in 2 Alchemy projects, then you will only get points for the first one.
--- SPEW points are extra credit. You can earn SPEW points for each project you turn in if it goes to charity. You do not have to give the charity's name, just that you are donating to a certain cause. (I happen to know that some Battered Women's Shelters don't like their names/locations posted.) SPEW projects must be clearly marked with SPEW to earn extra points. I suggest adding it to your header. Also, SPEW project can be turned in as stand-alone projects; they will earn 10 points. Unlike most projects, you can turn in more than one SPEW project for points.
---HPC Challenge Points do not include House Challenges. For Example, a Gryffindor Lion-along project would not count for points unless it also fulfills a HPC Class or HPC Challenge.
--- To determine House Cup Winner, an average from the points accumulated per house and the number of members per house. If there is a tie, then more than one house will win the cup. Note, a House Member is someone who has turned in at least 1 project.
--- Don't stress over House Points, but do craft your personal best. (This varies from person to person. And I'm not really worried about "crafting your best" bit because HPCers are amazing crafters!)~*HPC Portkeys*~

The idea is to make one tiny craft item with a Harry Potter theme
. It should be physically small and should be something that you can craft with a high level of skill. Even if it is a fairly simple/easy item for you to make, please embellish so that it best represents your skill. (For example, if you wish to make a coin purse, you could embroider, add beading, or take other steps to make it a really special piece.
) * You will receive only one partner.
* You may only send that partner ONE tiny Harry Potter craft - "Extras" are NOT allowed.
* All items must be 4"x4" or smaller. How do you know if your idea is "tiny?"
Examples: A coin purse is tiny; a clutch purse is not. A pair of earrings/pendant is tiny. A trinket box is tiny; a pencil box is not. If you're not sure if your idea qualifies as "tiny," ask your organizer! For a wonderful swap experience, communication is the key. Please keep in touch with your partner. Further, it would be nice if you would post in this thread at least once a week (you could just stop in for a quick hello.....or if on holiday or will be without internet access or anything of the such, just post a message....it gives your partner and organizer warm fuzzy feelings to know you are still around). If you want to participate, information to send to organizer

OTHPT4I am here to see if there would be any interest in OTHPT4 aka One Tiny Harry Potter Thing Round 4.
I adore OTT swaps, and I LOVE Harry Potter. Plus, the last rounds were AMAZING!
For those who don't know about OTT swaps, in an OTT swap you craft one tiny item, and only one tiny item. Tiny refers to the actual size of the item. All items must be within 4"x4" dimensions or smaller. But even though it's small, it should be an item that is crafted with a high level of skill. If it's a simple/easy item for you to craft, you would try to embellish or perfect it to best represent your skills.
I'm thinking signups May 27-June 8 and sendouts July 1, though these dates are not set in stone.
* YES, I'm planning on organizing another fabulous round of Back to Hogwarts with signups in August and sendouts beginning of October. It will be set up like last rounds so check out Back to Hogwarts 3 Discussion, Back to Hogwarts 3 Gallery, Back to Hogwarts 2 Discussion & Back to Hogwarts 2 Gallery.

Starts May, 15, 2013.The Summer Nerd Games welcomes all players from the Nerdyverse to join! The games are to inspire, encourage, and motivate your crafting adventure. Players can join anytime during the games. Are you wondering if you are part of the Nerdyverse?
Ends September 2, 2013.
Welcome to the Summer Nerd Games Arena!
I, pinkleo, shall be your host and Head Gamemaker.
I think John Green describes quite well...“…nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff… Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself love it. ...when people call people nerds, mostly what they’re saying is ‘you like stuff.’ Which is just not a good insult at all. Like, ‘you are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness’.”
...I think we are all part of the Nerdyverse. Rules of Engagement
--There is a list of challenges, for you to complete.
--You complete a challenge with crafty item you think fulfills it; you can use your description to make it clear on how craft fits challenge prompt.
--Players must craft to the best of their abilities and have a minimum of 30 minutes of crafting time per submission.
--A project can only be submitted for one challenge (the same project cannot be entered in multiple categories).
---A project does NOT have to be "nerdy" to fit a challenge; it only has to fulfill the prompt as you see it.
--Challenges must be started & completed during the Summer Nerd Games, unless otherwise noted.
--There will be SO MUCH to do in the Summer Nerd Games. Do not feel like you have to craft everything. Do what inspires you.
--We welcome all players from the Nerdyverse, no matter their Geekdom.
