1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Staircase Stars Quilt -- first post! on: December 09, 2013 02:05:28 PM
I just finished and mounted a batik star quilt for my mom for above the stairs in her house.  Here is a shot of the whole thing -- unfortunately I forgot to take a picture before I mounted it up on the wall!  It measures 6.5ft X 6.5ft and has 25 sawtooth stars.

Straight on shot of a big part of the quilt:

Here is the whole quilt, sorry about the angle!

I used five batik fabrics and used different combinations of the fabrics for each star and four borders.  I decided to make a collage of the colors instead of a regular pattern for how the colors rotated, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.  This is my second quilt, and I started it last June.  But finally, I finished!   Cheesy Here is a closer look.

I experimented with a quilt-as-you-go method in order to quilt around each star since I used my regular sewing machine to do the quilting, using this tutorial: http://flutterkat.com/2012/01/my-quilt-as-you-go-process-tutorial-of/as a guide.

My mother is thrilled :]  I mounted the quilt up on the wall using this tutorial http://www.amyalamode.com/blog/2012/01/18/how-to-hang-a-quilt-tutorial/ and the method worked great.  It involves sewing two pockets, one on top of the quilt and one on the bottom and using boards and eye screws and then mounted the eyes crews to the wall.

Thanks for looking!  Comments and critique welcome!
