311  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What do you currently want to make instead of buying it? on: July 07, 2005 05:52:25 PM
That's just a long rectangle in reverse stockinette, with two front-crossing cables running down it. Looks like an 8-stitch cable to me.

So I'd do a guage swatch, figure out the width you want it to be, and divide by three. Figure how many stitches you'll need to make each 3-part section. Cast on that many plus sixteen. Every six or so rows, cable 4 forward after your width divided by three amount. If there's a side panel, that's just a rectangle again. Same length as your first one, and about 1/3 as wide, I'd guess.

Thanks I changed the topic because you pretty much answered my original question. Also, I'm curious to see what other knitters would rather make Smiley Thanks for your reply. I can't wait to get started on this project.

I refuse to pay for this bag when I can make it or one similiar.  Is there anything you guys refuse to buy because you'd rather make it instead?

313  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Knitting Vs. Crochet: Which would you recommend? on: July 06, 2005 07:59:52 AM
Each craft serves a purpose. I learned how to knit by reading Stitch and Bitch. It came easy for me but I think its because I reeeallly wanted to learn so bad so I soaked it in. I agree with what's already been said. Look at patterns and whichever catches your eye, learn first. Eventually you'll learn how to crochet because a lot of kniting involves crocheting edges of certain knitted items. Whichever you do choose, have fun with it!

The Mud Flap Tank from S&BN but without the girl.

I used Lily's Sugar and Cream in Rosewood.  Took me a weekend to complete and fun to make. I can't wait to finish the matching tank top so I can wear them both together  Cheesy

That's awesome. Silly question, how did you make the head ridges?
Just swapped the direction of the knitting ie: when i should have done knit row i did a purl so the ridges came to the front, then carried on stocking stitch for 2 more rows then changed it back to the original side again! (hope you understand me!)

Understood. Very cool  Cool
319  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Gum Wrapper Bracelet Protection? on: June 25, 2005 03:53:12 PM
Well gums only come individually wrapped in the silver paper now.  I use the pack wrapper and even though that's coated it peels. No biggie. I'll just make more. Thanks Cool
