21  Re: Dollar Store Swap Round 4 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by mommabear1963 on: March 18, 2007 01:11:08 PM
Ok, here is a picture of the supplies that I had to begin with

I had to narrow it down and I finally used:
1 placemat
1 jumprope
1 candle holder
1 candle
1pckg colored wire bracelets
wire cutters
3 pieces funky fruit jewelry
1 dream catcher which I painted
and, the food erasors
oops, $11.  But I kept the wire cutters.   Tongue
Everything else was just stuff I had around the house.  The erasors came from the Dollar Tree.

Bigmouth, those embellishments came in a package all of their own.  I am not sure what they are for but I seem to think that they came out of the scrapbooking section.

And by they way, Mom and I did not plan together to both make bags it just turned out that way.

Ok, here are the pictures of the absolutely wonderful package that Kantha_stitch sent to me.

I asked for a pouch to carry my pens and pencils in, inside my purse
Here is the perfect pouch already filled with pens and pencils

Another wristlet pouch/purse

a really fun fabric covered address book
I really needed an address book
A fabric and marble covered picture frame

A really nice off white bag with bead accents and lining that matches the pen pouch
The cutest pink and white sock monkey and a super cute and soft grey stuffie, oh they are sooo soo cute

you can see the monkey wearing the marble ring,

it was hard to get a good picture of the ring

I believe that is the package and I love it all.  Thank you very much Kantha.

You are welcome Dancer4Ever, it was fun.

Here are pictures,

I sent two beginner crochet booklets that had very good instructions and illustrations on how to do the stitches, and simple patterns

Then I sent a notebook that I made, it says "crochet notes"

In the notebook are crochet notes, tips and patterns

and samples of stitches

I sent yarn to practice the chain stitch, cause we all have to practice that and a skien of chenille to make the purse in one of the booklets

a hemp bath scrubbie and the supplies and instructions to make it

a dish cloth and the cotton and directions to make it

a very easy hat pattern and New Zealand wool to make it

a hook roll made out of a place mat (one of my dollar store purchases)

I think 5 hooks, a double eyed needle, 3 stitch markers and the big pocket has a little notebook

You all should know by now that I am picture happy.  Anyway this was a great swap and all of the kits have been amazing.

Now the spinning kit that laminathegreat sent to me.  I raise angora goats and have been wanting to learn to spin for a long time so that I can put the mohair to use rather than in storage.

So here are the really great, step by step, illustrated instructions

a really cool bag to hold it all in

spindle, and directions to make a spindle

a lot of great fibers to work with

and look at this Kool aid dyed fiber, so beautiful

Thank you so much.  It is all just too exciting.  I have been reading the directions but have not gotten the nerve to try yet.

I am finally catching up on my Craftster chores today so I am posting pictures of the great and wonderful kits that I got last Friday.

First the bookbinding kit from EowynUlysses,

Here is everything together.  It has, really good directions (this I need), a lot of great paper to play with and use, thread, needles, ruler, cardboard for a cover, and binder clips.  And notice the sample journal, so cute, I love it.

cardboard and clips
needles

a bunch of great paper

Thank you so much.  I can't wait to try it.

26  Re: ONGOING POST SECRET SWAP GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by mommabear1963 on: February 12, 2007 07:36:53 AM
I got another secret, here it is

this one is not a post card but is a computer print.  In the background it says "I want to go to the bahamas"
imprinted over that it says "I'm the only "friend" who wasn't invited..."

then across the bottom it says "I really wish you'd stop telling me you don't hate me when I'm never invited anywhere and you all generally avoid me.  I'm sorry I'm not good enough to leave the country for weed, cocaine, and booze with you, but please stop telling me we're still best friends.  You're barely graduating high school like this.  you'll never make it through college.  I wish I could help you, but none of you will want help until one of you OD's.  I guess that's why I wasn't invited, then."

Dear friend, thank you for sharing that.  Please believe me you do not want to go to jail in a foriegn country for drugs.  It sounds to me like your head is on better than your "friends" and they are not really your friends and you should find a new set whose values are more in line with your own.  Love mommabear.

by the way, we should have a new reciever for February.

27  Banquet dress disaster/costume pattern and material complaint(new pics added) in Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects by mommabear1963 on: February 08, 2007 06:31:34 AM
I started this dress last year to wear to our annual banquet but did not get it done in time.  Last year I wore about a 20 to 22, this year I wear from 18-20.  So when I cut it out last year I cut it bigger than the pattern size 20, and measured and everything and thought it would fit.

Well I finished it this year and it is beautiful, but when I put it on it ripped in three places 1) because it was too tight and 2) because the fabric shredded.  The pattern is McCall's cosumes 4340 http://www.mccallpattern.com/sewingtoday/shop.cgi?search=4340&TI=40001&M=&pageSize=12

In addition the shoulders were falling off of me and would have shown my bra which I tried to adjust for but it did not work too well.

Well here is the dress
the back  the sleeves which I love

I think that I will take the sleeves off and put them on a blouse or something because they are so cool.

I also made the corsette to go over the top,

I tried to put the dress and corsette on penelope (the dress form)  so that you could see them together, but they are so huge they would not stay on her shoulders

The fabric was a beautiful satin brocade and I sewed and surged and taped in spots and it still fell apart, the corsette I made last year with a slick lining but it kept shredding so I took it out and put a white cotton lining,

SO MY QUESTIONS ARE THIS 1) WHY DON'T THEY MAKE PATTERNS TO FIT REAL PEOPLE (ESPECIALLY COSTUME PATTERNS), AND 2) WHY DO THEY MAKE MATERIAL THAT YOU CANNOT SEW WITH.

I had also ordered a dress in advance in case this one did not work out and it arrived the day after the banquet ARGGGGG

Maybe somebody has tips on how to sew with this kind of fabric, what the secret is.  My mom just refuses to sew with it at all and she has been sewing a long time.

Here are some action shots of the corsette overtop

The skirt I made for old fashioned Sunday years ago and still wear it and the blouse is a materity blouse my daughter found at a yard sale.  lol.  So what do you think?  Should I keep it?  I should have shown you the old fashioned bloomers underneath.   Embarrassed

Ok, get ready for lots of pictures and to be soo jealous.  I asked that my partner be creative and surprise me and like I said before she was a master at both.  I can tell by the quality of work that she put a lot of work into this package and I can also tell that she did some research because she fit my tastes so well.  I love this package so much.
Here is a sneak preview of everything the was it was yesterday as I was carrying it around to show EVERYONE, that is why I could not take pictures yesterday

Everything was wrapped beautifully and I wanted to take pictures but my son was driving me and I just could not wait to get home from the post office to open it,  (bad impulse control) Anyway, here is the beautiful maroon messenger type bag

The lining and check out the really cool lizzard zipper pull

I did not have a bag this color yet and I love this color, I am so excited to use it

Next is the coolest little journal    look, it has a goat running with scissors (I collect goats)
the lining matches the bag and has the "run with scissors and other cautionary tales" posted
it is a mixed paper journal and look, some pages have goats

Here is a beautiful decopauged box with a mirror glued on top

the top inside lid   the lining is black slick material and it was full of other treasures including some plastic lizzards

also in the box, some really nice glass coasters and some Chinese excersize balls
Two pair of earings and a necklace

And the greatness goes on, Introducing Grogan the Goat
  He is so Cool
And now, the PIrate Lizzard

He has so much detail on him, he has piercings and an arm band and all kinds of jewelry, and the ped leg and fingers and a really cool tail, and he is awsome.

Wow is that a lot of stuff and I love it all.  Thank you Amanda it is all so great!!!

Gwydion said that I could post pictures of what I made for her, so here it goes

the original purchases

a plain wood box, bag of shells, paintbrushes, socks, penguin bath scrubbie, hair clips which I did not use cause I found some at home that I liked better, brown sparkly yarn, purple bows, and a recieving blanket with horses.

I knew that I wanted to make her a pin to wear with her shawls but my first one was a disaster because it was way to big for a pin, but as she said, I sent her the parts anyway hoping she could use them for something

but finally I had success with a crochet pin out of the yarn I bought, and some yarn and hemp and a pin back that I already had

I made another pin out of one of the purple bows

The other purple bow I made a barrette and glued a shell in the center

these little yarn wrapped barrettes

a stack of cloth napkins made out of the recieving blanket

and.... this painted penguin box cause she collects penguins, to keep paintbrushes or pencils or other craft supplies in

shells glued on top, and paint brushes inside

and I threw in a crochet dish cloth made from yarn that I had already

I got secrets, yippee!!!

Here is the first one

It says "Running into you at Wal-Mart was one of the best gifts I recieved this year.  You may have realized it because I hugged you so tight it hurt.  Even though you were only a coworker, Christmas isn't the same without you.  Don't be a stranger."

Here is the second one

The heading is CRIMPLENE FOR MEN.  Sorry I don't know what Crimplene is.  Then it says "My old roommate's ex lives around the block from my new place.  I want to call him up for coffee so we can laugh about what a jerk his ex-boyfriend is."

Thank you poster for sharing your secrets with me.  I got so excited that I wanted to send a secret but then I realized that I cannot send a secret to my self.
