1  'Midsummer Night' series - polymer clay & beads (image heavy) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Pretendpeterpan on: November 10, 2008 10:56:37 AM
Hey all,

Wanted to share a few pics of a series I just finished. The pieces are inspired by characters in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. I've recently gotten into polymer clay pendants (they are SO versatile) and a lot of the pieces utilize them.

Here are some of my favs from the series:

"Peaseblossom" Necklace:

"Hermia" Necklace:

"Titania" Necklace:

Thanks for looking! As always, feedback and critiques are welcome :-)

2  Serenity/Firefly Inspired Jewelry in Beads: Completed Projects by Pretendpeterpan on: March 27, 2008 09:48:37 PM
I'm finishing up moderating a firefly/serenity swap (for those of you who don't know this tv series/movie-- run to blockbuster and rent it! I guarantee amazingness!) and sent some jewelry to my partner.

I made a necklace inspired by the character Kaylee- she's the ship mechanic and is a combination of girly and tough. She wears olive green coveralls with a pink flowered shirt underneath for most of the series. (The show also takes place in the future where the creators imagined the main cultural influences were western and Asian, so I took that into account as well).

I made a bracelet and earrings inspired by the character Inara. She's a companion (essentially a 'working girl' of the future, only extremely classy and respectable). Her room on the ship is full of decadent materials and rich colors. I used nice 14K gold findings and the bracelet is on stretch cord.

3  Re: FIREFLY / SERENITY SWAP ROUND 7 in The Swap Gallery by Pretendpeterpan on: March 27, 2008 09:42:12 PM
I just got excited and wanted to upload a full shot of the stuff I sent TheCraftyCat. Her favorite characters are Inara and Kaylee, so I made: an Inara-inspired picture frame, Inara earrings and bracelet set, a Kaylee-inspired necklace, a Serenity Chinese character keychain, and a treasure box with cherry blossoms painted on the top, green brocade asian fabric on the inside, and a patterned gold paper on the inside top:

My items from her are in the mail, but I enjoy sending just as much as receiving! I'd love to see some action shots of the jewelry ;-)

I just sent my info in-- had some craziness arise at the beginning of the month and am just getting my butt in gear. The good news? I've had some time to paint! Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair:

They're only 3.5" by 3.5".... I love how they turned out.

Here's an action shot of atsuko's necklace (nevermind the fact that the champagne colored pearl is paler than my SKIN... oh, Irish).

And a goofy expression after a long day of work:

I got so many compliments today! Close up:

7  Pendant Madness in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Pretendpeterpan on: February 15, 2008 09:51:05 AM
I've recently become obsessed with making pendants. Inspired by a trip to Anthropologie, (I ganked the picture off of the Anthro site since things disappear sometimes... this is the one that started it all:

I crafted some up recently and have painted them. The bottom red one has found its way into a necklace. I love em!

8  Play Free Bird! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Pretendpeterpan on: February 15, 2008 08:59:33 AM
I just can't stop thinking that lately as most of my art is based on birds and owls and flying creatures. Nerd.

Anyway, I painted this for my swap shop. It was very popular and I'm going to do more similar ones! I painted a number of pieces of cardstock, paper, construction paper, etc. then used them as the medium on the canvas. This piece is on an 8 1/2" by 11" canvas.

(Note: I know this might not technically be "arty," but it's kind of whimsical and different than my normal paintings. It can be very fun to just paint cute stuff.)
