For Halloween this year my son wanted to be Wall-E. They don't make costumes (well we did see one in a catalog but it was kinda lame for the price) So we decided to make it.
Here it is in action on Halloween:


Now to take you on a step by step of the progress.

1. Started with a box...wasn't sure how to go about keeping it up on him and that but I think we came up with a good thing.


2. This is the first painting.


3. With the side treads on...that was an engineering feat. Thinking how to hook them on and make the spoke all from stuff we already had at the house was a process.


4. Treads off again and painted up to look like he was rusted and dirty.


5. Painted treads are on and ready to go.



6. Finished headpiece and completed costume.



It was allot of work but most of it was the planning and waiting for paint to dry. Vincent thinks it is the greatest thing in the world, so that is all that matters.

So a while back I posted about "Toothy" that i had made for my son. It was a tooth fairy pillow. I had just made the first one out of felt. Little did I know that he was going to play such a big part in plush play over at out house. needless to say Toothy is quite pilly and when I had to play tooth fairy the other night it was hard to get that little bugger of a tooth out and $ in without making a commotion (i was almost made)
Anyhow I decided to make one that was made of cotton instead so that Toothy would have a pal (I couldn't let the truth out of the bag the real reason why I wanted to make another one)
Anyhow I ended up making 4 different ones. they are really cute. Much cutter in person then in the picts.
I used vintage buttons for the eyes on them and some reused fabrics for the back pockets.
Anyhow here is my fave one.

I really liked the bread. It was great with some butter but also yummy just on its own. Very rustic!

Since then I have tried a few tweaks on the recipe but I keep comming back to the original one.
The only thing that I have learned is on the last resting of the dough I wrap it in saran...it comes off lots easier in the dutch oven. I was always having dough left behind when I would have it rest in a towel...no matter how much flower I used.
also I never uses the parchment....it always stuck to the bottom. If you heat the DO in the oven during the preheat it wont stick though....trial and error I guess.

Here is a cake I made for my son's birthday.


It was fun to make but didn't turn out as well as the one I got my idea from (Heidi Kenney) But all the same my son loved it and that is all that matters right?

We made the flames by melting hard candies and swirling them together.


the cake was a dark chocolate and in the middle there was a caramel filling. You biol a can of condensed milk for 3 hrs and it becomes a caramel. Super yummy. But with the deep chocolate cake, Carmel filling and dark chocolate frosting it was a bit rich.....Good but I could only eat a little of it. Next time I think I would  pass on the filling.

So I hadn't posted in a while and I am going though little by little posting all the stuff I took picts of but never posted.
here is a pict from our sushi night. this was my first attempt so we made a bit of everything.

It was all super yummy!

Here was the whole meal deal.

We are! For the past few months now.
It started when we got a new kitchen table. Before we had a 50's Formica table that you could do anything on and it would just wipe up. No big deal. But when I got a wood table that all changed. I had the hardest time finding place mats that were fun, interesting and not thick. Well needless to say I never found any that I liked. So I set out to make some for myself and some for the store. While I was at it I made matching napkins too. I hated the fact of buying paper napkins. We were tossing out too many and they weren't even dirty but enough not to put back in the drawer. I was really impressed with how easy they were to make and how well they hold up. We feel like we are super fancy pants too. Well I think they are nice, my son is the one who thinks he is fancy now. And the best part of all...No trash!

I made this little guy yesterday. He makes me so happy when I sew with him. This totally reminds me of Mr. Sunshine from the Care Bears. It came out a bit larger then I was planning but overall sewing with it is great!

I had made myself a craft apron. well to be truthfull it was for when I went to the park or on walks with my son and I didn't have pockets and I didn't want to carry a purse. My husband called it a fancy fanny pack. But whatever...it is 100 times better then a fanny pack.

So I should have known that a few days later my son would want one for him.

He picked out the fabrics from my stash and we went to work.



Of course it has several pockets and some pencil sections as well.
I must say his looks much better on then mine....flat tummys look so cute with aprons.

I was messing around one night and made this little mushroom. I really needed to de-stress so I figured some hand embroidery would help with that. this is what the finished project was. It is stableized with rice so he stands up nice. I am still deciding if it is a Waldorf type toy or decoration. Or something more utilitarian like a pincushion or something....who knows.



I love how the bottom of the cap came out...even if it was completely by accident...A happy little accident I guess.

I have finally had the time to sit down and post some things I have been making.

Anyhow here is a shirt I made for my friends birthday gift.
I had got a new machine that actually did a satin stitch so I couldn't wait to try it out.
I learned allot from this ...never doing applique on a knit before I learned that I really need stabilizer in the back (as you can see on the leaf and that) But I think it turned out well over all. Now to make myself one.
