41  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Cute little girls summer dress on: June 12, 2008 04:30:29 PM
So I have been hording vintage patterns and fabric for a while now and I realized it has gotten out of hand. So what better way to de-stash and curb the hording....making stuff.

I made this one today. I really hate cutting out patterns. that takes more time then sewing but what are you going to do?

Anyhow here it is..

And the back...

And I even made matching bloomers...

Too bad it would be wrong for a 30 something to wear that around town....I love kids clothes and just the fact I can't wear them Sad
42  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Re: help with Cabbage Patch Dolls on: November 28, 2006 09:07:34 AM
You can throw them in the washer (if they have dirt/stains on the bodies just use spray and wash)....put some towels with them so they don't go "banging about" just wash them on the gentle cycle and use detergent. then you can just dry them for a bit in the dryer (10 min on low) if it is summer you can just let them dry in the sun.

For the marks on the faces I use achahol or lighter fluid...just make sure you don't drip on their eyes or brows....it will come off.

My son have several CPK that we have saved from thrift stores and this works like a charm...they have all had many bathes and are still in good shape.

We only have the yarn hair though so I don't know about the cornsilk kind.
Just a FYI their hair is synthetic so don't worry about shrinkage

For the girl you could make a little bear head cozy/dress up thingy (like the one in my pict) I made it in about 1/2 hr and my son thinks it is the greatest thing....then she could be a bear all the time (if her mom goes for that kind of thing)

For the boy what you could make is a road map....you know like the floor mats that you can buy. just use a drop cloth (fabric ones) and then either paint or sew streets homes etc on there. You can do his own neighborhood if you have that info. I am sure he has some trash trucks and just ask the mom the size so you have the right scale. I have a 4 year old too and he loves his mat (even though it was from the thrift store and not homemade)....maybe you could make little trash cans out of spice containers or that too...
I must say too s a mom this is a great thing since you can just roll it up and it is out of sight.

Thanks for all the kind words. I guess I will try to explain how I did it (I didn't take picts for a tut (i cant work like that Tongue)

Anyhow I just cut a rectangle out of the fur (about the size I wanted when it is folded in 1/2)

I then folded the material in 1/2 and placed it on my head and marked where I wanted to place the ears.

I then made little slits in the fur so that I would be able to inset a ear in each (make it kinda smaller then the ear base that you think you are going to make. And set is aside.

Take some more of the fabric and put two pieces of the fur (fuzzy side together) you can either now draw or free sew the ears (just make 1/2 circles) in whatever size suites you (leave the flat end or bottom of the ear unsewen)

Flip the ears right side out and contort them however suits you. Stick them in one of the wholes you had cut and then sew them in (just a flat seam works fine) but make sure you sew a bit further out then the ear and whole so you dint have any holes when your done.

Do the same for the other ear.

Now turn the rectangle right sides together  and you are going to sew the long seam (but keep about 3 inches in the middle unsewen...this way you can finish it nice and neat)

Just a note...the bottom seam will be in the middle bottom of the panta so keep that in mind.

Now cut two pieces of ribbon however long you like for the ties.

You are going to pull the end of the panta through that little 3 inch gap you left. get it all flattened out how ever you need to and place the ribbon in there so that when you sew the seam it will stick out on the finished end. (you can either sew straight across or you can do a curved end like I did...again you can draw or just freehand it)

Pull that end out of the 3 inch gap and do the other side just the same way.

Now that you are done your panta should be all flattened out (don't forget to trim the ends for a nice neat look (fur can get bulky).

The final step is to get the little 3 inch section and tuck in the raw edges and sew a med size zig zag on it so everything is closed up nice and neat (the zig zag will get lost in the fur Smiley )

I hope that helped those of you who wanted to make one Smiley

OK so I'm not sure if this is the right place but really wasn't sure where to post.

Anyhow I wanted to make a cute little hat like thing but I don't like to wear full hats that much. I love the pantas but wanted something fun so I got some fur andmade a little fuzzy bear panta for me Smiley. It was fast and easy to make (just made it on the fly) In this pict I have it tied behind my pigtails but if I tie it under my chin it actually becomes earwarmers as well (wasn't planning on that but I was happy)

My son received the swap package from stellato_escuro  today and LOVED it!
She had sent so much it was really sweet of her.
First off she had made him a cape with the cutest Star Wars fabric (it is now the "Darth Vader" cape since he has the helmet but didn't have a cape)

Here is a group shot of all the other goodies that we got.

I got a bag of wild rice that I cant wait to make now that there is a chill in the air.

Harry Potter valentine's cards (2 of them were "fortune tellers" they are quite a hit)

Pooh and friends stickers

A canister of candy that had some cool dice hiding in the bottom (didn't get them in the pict Sad )

A fruit snack (our fave kind too)

A glittery pencil that is already MIA (I am sure it was hidden from me since I am always using his pencils)

A little sleeping bag for whoever goes on an adventure with him (matches his cape....god I just love the fabric)

An adventure book you know where you pick what happens next....I forgot all about these kind till now.....as we speak he is begging me to read it to him Smiley

A berry finding guide which is super neat and we will defiantly use....he loves to pick berries so now we will know what we can and cant eat.

And last but not least 2 postcards to her showing....and I must say I love the "tree of life" necklace Smiley

Thanks again for everything he just loves it all!
