1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / teething/nursing necklace on: November 24, 2013 12:13:05 PM
personal goal of learning to sew + friend having a baby + pinterest + eight "borrowed" wooden beads= this:

teething/nursing necklace

It's bit wobbly, and a math failure led to some last-minute creative problem solving, but hopefully it will still get the job done!

(My apologies for the awful photo/wrinkly background.)
2  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / needle felting first attempts on: November 24, 2013 11:53:33 AM

I have been so inspired by the amazing needle-felted figures I have seen here and elsewhere.  I'm somewhat embarrassed to post my feeble attempts, but everybody has to start somewhere, right?

The penguin is from a kit (that I got on Etsy, but I don't remember the specific store), and the cat started out from a needle-felted animal book, but quickly devolved into a process of my own.
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Mma Ramotswe mother's day card on: November 24, 2013 11:46:23 AM
Have you read/watched the Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series?

If not, I highly recommend it.

If you have, this is a mother's day card from a few years ago (my mother introduced me to the books) featuring Mma Ramotswe herself.  It is cut paper collage with white colored pencils and black pen details.

The words at the bottom say, "I love you mother" in Tswana (one of the languages of Botswana, where the story is set).  At least that's what I hope they say never can trust internet phrase guides 100%.

I loved Mma Ramotswe's outfits, and wanted to capture some of the lovely detail in the sleeves, but as you can see I was not able to get the folds to stay stuck down.  Maybe I wasn't using the right kind of glue?

Thanks for looking!
4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / dire wolf birthday card on: November 24, 2013 11:23:08 AM
My friend is a big fan of Game of Thrones (as in recently re-reading the entire series, kind of fan), so it wasn't hard to figure out a good motif to use for his extremely belated birthday card.

This was the first time I did this kind of fiddly cutting with this type of paper (Color-aid), which is why it's a little more ragged (especially around the internal cuts) than I'd like.  Does anyone have any tips for paper-cutting projects with this kind of paper?

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Cork Coasters on: November 24, 2013 11:14:58 AM
These are two of the cork coasters I made around this time last year.  They were part of a set of six, but these two are all I can find now.  Huh

I free-handed the designs (inspired partly by mehndi and indian block printing stamps) using a wood burning tool.  There was a learning curve, and a few burnt fingers, but overall I was surprised how easy it was and mostly pleased with how they came out.

(Incidentally, this is my first post, so if I have messed it up somehow I hope you will understand!)
