3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / *Swap Questionaire Suggestion* on: February 21, 2007 02:26:57 PM
Hi. I have a suggestion for an addition to the basic questions on the swap questionaire:

1. Do you have any allergies (pets/smoke/etc)? And do you live in a house with cats/smoke/etc?

And yes, I know that I can simply type this change in myself, but I just wanted to suggest that it gets implemented permanently. I know I forgot to add it with my current swap and later felt really guilty that someone's going to get there package and break into hives.

And feel free to "talk amongst yourselves." Maybe there are more suggestions out there...
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / *Felt Embroidered Christmas Goodness* (complete w/ photos) on: January 28, 2007 07:12:42 PM
Here are some of the goodies I've made for my boyfriend's parents the last couple years. They're super traditional so I didn't get too crazy!

First, some ornaments I made out of felt and then embroidered:

(I put they're names on the stocking - Lou Ann and Bob - and left the stocking open so they can put candy or whatever in it)

And, I embroidered this fleece throw for them last year, and remembered to take a picture this time when I saw it on their couch. I drew the acorn and pinecone designs.

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / *Shrine to 25* on: January 28, 2007 05:45:57 PM
So, my 25th birthday is in a couple weeks and I'm trying this whole "self-betterment" thing. Wah wah, right....Anyway, so I made a quick little shrine to remind myself of what I'm trying to accomplish.

I started with this box that orginally held these little cards that had quotes on them about new beginnings. I kept the original spine & I used this really nice paper with scientific illustrations of shells on it:

Front:

Inside - the red paper has a faux velvet thing going on:

Details of inside

the fortune says "to conquer your flaws, you must first accept them" with this gangsta picture of me from my New York I.D.

And, the back:

It's been forever since I've posted anything. Comments/suggestions welcome!

No, I'm not talking famous Alter Egos like Clark Kent, I'm talking about YOU. What is your alter ego or what do you WISH your alter ego was? Do you wish you were a Julia Childs style TV cook? Or that you were some fashionista back in Victorian times carrying a parasol all day? Or, like me, wishing you had a singing voice appropriate for places other than the shower so you could be a bona fide ROCK STAR?

This is a chance to "live the dream," and to vicariously live through someone elses, so be creative!!!

***

Personally, I usually make 1 "big" item and a bunch of smaller things. Each set of partners will coordinate on how many items are made between them. But there are no set "rules," so if you feel like you can't stop craftin', just coordinate with your partner so you both get the same amount of items.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

I think this topic could produce some awesome crafts...and maybe stop some craftsters from running away to join the circus.

What do you all think?

8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / *Ouija Board/Fate Shrine* on: September 24, 2006 08:47:18 AM
I had this cool old suitcase with a broken zipper...and realized that it was perfect for a large shrine. I've had my old Ouija board lying around (haven't had any sleepovers in a while   Wink ), so decided to make a "fate" shrine - featuring some of the ways people put their fate in the hands of different fortune-telling devices.

I used Italian-made tarot card paper for the background:

I had a mini fortune-cookie box with an accordian style sheet of fortunes:

And I recently found the perfect finishing touch in a pair of old wooden dice I found at an antiques market:

One last thing I may add is a mini 8-ball. We'll see...Thanks for looking!
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / *Suitcase Shelves* on: August 11, 2006 05:03:52 PM
Another one inspired by Readymade magazine. In the latest issue they had instructions for making a standing bookcase out of 2 suitcases...but our apt doesn't have too much xtra floor space - but we do have high ceilings! Just pry off the lids of suitcases (don't worry - I've got plans for those), attach the suitcases to each other, then use the old "L" wall supports and attach to the wall. I especially enjoy the juxtapose of my boyfriend's playstation games with the antique cases...

Thanks for looking!
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / *Skateboard shelves* on: August 11, 2006 04:55:02 PM
Ok...not too much craftiness here, but a good use for 3 of the 4 skateboards my bf and I had lying around the apartment. Pretty self explanatory - just attached "L" supports and attached to wall - woot!

Cool.
